it is becoming more and more around here people using their garages for mini-businesses with out having business licenses, I believe that garage sales should be kept to selling things you no longer need or want...just my opinion...any body else have one?....thx

When they do it to get around paying taxes it makes me bad. Especially when I have to pay taxes all the time for my business, instead of just selling the material on the side and doing the work on the side.

In some states there are laws governing the amount of garage sales one person can have as well as the amount of money made. But from what I understand, even with the laws in place, no one enforces them.

Just because it looks new to you doesn't mean it's no longer wanted by the person selling it - perhaps it was a gift of some sort that they were never able to put to use. Who knows for sure? Besides, if you can get something you need which is in great condition and a reasonable price... what's the problem? Provided of course it really is a garage sale and not some sort of black market side-deal... cause that's just not cool.

No I don't. What I hate is that cities & towns have not yet realized how valuable small businesses are and do not pursue more ways to assist them.
Some of these new items might be lots that they had bought to sell on ebay and they're just looking for ways to liquidate them.
If you don't like these sales, don't shop em.

Yes, unless it is "old" new stuff as in gift giving items or purchases that have not been used and you know it.
