so far my outfit consists of a pencil skirt (high wasted) little white tennis shoes with white folded socks, and a small cardigan sweater...and hair in a high pony tail

In the 50s, it was commonplace for mother and daughter to wear similar clothes. Whereas your idea would be perfect for the daughter, the mother would wear high heel shoes and stockings.
