Yes, they are important to Black Americans whether they attended one or not. They have helped many people advance themselves and their families professionally and financially. There is a huge amount of history and contributions to society that came out of the halls of HBCUs around the United States. Unfortunately, there are many black men in prison or just not taking the opportunities to advance themselves and the black women are passing them by.

Well, they are important simply because they were made for blacks when they were not allowed to go to a white school. Now me personally, I don't go to one and I never wanted to go to one. I like the diversity of a regular university. I grew up with diversity and that is the way I prefer it. But HBCU's are important and they all have a history to them.

Historically, black colleges are as important to blacks as the KKK is to whites. Welcome to the new millinium. Anyone who intentionally sets people apart because of race is a racist, is that how you want to be remembered?
