It's not the troops' fault that they've been left out to dry in a unbearable world of hate and heat for years on end. I don't think it's the troops' fault, do you?

No I do not blame the troops. I blame the people who put them in that situation. These are men and women who have seen atrocious horrible acts and we can in no way sit in judgement of them.

War brings out not only the best in some people but also the worst. War and attrocities go hand in hand from the very first war until today. It is just that today there is 24 hour news world wide that have their reporters out ready to video and publish every crime committed by US forces.
It is a plus for the American side that they actually prosecute their troops when they commit a war crime.

Are you serious? Or are you just trying to be provocative?

Portraying our American troops as "...insane committing acts of murder, torture, & rape?". What a gutless (and safely annonymous) accusation!

Here's a suggestion. Put your question on a sign and go stand outside Parris Island. I'm sure a few of our fine Marines (or maybe their families) would be glad to sit down and have a conversation with you about it.

Good God, the things people will write, just to try to make some political statement!

When during our nations war ( voted on and agreed by both parties) we fight a war, war involves killing the enemy before they kill you.

As in any large group of people, some bad people do get invovled.

So it is not the militaries fault and not our leaders fault.
The same people that sometimes rape and murder on our cities street also sometimes sneak into the military.

The really bad things that upsets our military are people that don't stand behind the war and the troops, they feel like these people are traitors to them and thier nation.

War is always a mess, and the worst thing you can do to your troops is put them in an unwinnable situation. On the news yesterday some of our soldiers were quoting Iraqi security forces as saying "as soon as you leave, we are quitting. We don't trust our Commanders or our Government." Not too inspiring for a brave young volunteer to wake up to every morning. Bush has left them to twist in the wind on this one.

Are you equalizing Islam with terrorism? That is another question I suppose.

War is hell on anyone, seeing the tragedy and the pressure can mess up the best of us. Although that is really no excuse for murder, torture, etc.
There need to be the resources to get the guys out of there before they crack, and to find and treat them before they go bonkers.
But really, it all sucks

There are bad people no matter where they are. The same thing goes on here in the states and Bush had nothing to do with that.
And it's not Bush's war. It's our war. So get over it.
It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant some can be.

Wars stress those who fight them. Always have & always will. Some will inevitably crack under this stress & do things they shouldn't.
Are you saying that we shouldn't fight back against terrorists because a few of the soldiers might break the law? That would be a sure path to defeat.

I'm not making excuses for what happened, just trying to understand why 4 young men 1@19, 2@23, 1@20 could do such a sick crime.
They grew up in a culture that glorifies violence and sex.
they have never been given an honest reason why they are there.
They have it drilled into them that the enemy are an inferiour race of people .
Their national leadership spout off about human rights but blatently couldn't care less.
They are the most brain washed young people in the history of the world. The only equals they have would be the "Hitler Youth"
There brain washing is complete, in the media, the schools, even the churches are to blame.
They of course will be made the scapegoats, and they should be punished. The monsters that have created them will not be punished or even seen as guilty.
In fact they will continue to sell their evil to the youth of the western world and making money on it.

Court told US troops gang-raped Iraqi girl
Mon Aug 7, 10:59 AM
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A U.S. military court in Baghdad heard graphic testimony on Monday of how three U.S. soldiers took turns raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl before murdering her and her family.

At the hearing into whether four U.S. soldiers should be court-martialled for rape and murder, a special agent described what took place in Mahmudiya in March, based on an interview he had with one of the men, Specialist James Barker.
The case, the fifth involving serious crimes being investigated by the U.S. military in Iraq, has outraged Iraqis and led Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to call for a review of foreign troops' immunity from prosecution under Iraqi law.
Special Agent Benjamin Bierce recalled that Barker described to him how they put a couple and their six-year-old daughter into a bedroom of their home, but kept the teenage girl in the living room, where Barker held her hands while Sergeant Paul Cortez raped her or tried to rape her.
Barker then switched positions with Cortez and attempted to rape the girl but said he was not sure if he had done so, Bierce told the hearing.
Barker also told the special agent he heard shots from the bedroom and shortly afterwards Private Steven Green emerged from the room, put down an AK-47 assault rifle and raped the girl while Cortez held her down.
SHOT HER SEVERAL TIMES
Barker told Bierce that Green then picked up the weapon and shot her once, paused, and shot her several more times.
Military prosecutors are expected to set out their case against Private First Class Jesse Spielman, 21, Barker, 23, Cortez, 23 and Private First Class Bryan Howard, 19, who face charges of rape and murder among others.
If court-martialled after the Article 32 hearing -- the military's equivalent of a U.S. grand jury -- and found guilty, they could face the death penalty. The hearing began on Sunday and is expected to last several days.
Green, 21, faces the same charges in a U.S. federal court in Kentucky, home of the 502nd Infantry Regiment, his former unit. Green, who has pleaded not guilty, was discharged from the army for a "personality disorder."
A fifth soldier, Sergeant Anthony Yribe, is charged with dereliction of duty and making a false statement and will also appear at the hearing at a U.S. base in Baghdad.
Defense Attorney Captain Jimmie Culp was blowing chewing gum bubbles while Yribe, sitting to his left, began sucking on a red lollipop during the testimony.
An Iraqi army medic told the hearing on Sunday he entered the house and found the body of 14-year-old Abeer Qasim Hamza al-Janabi naked and burned from the waist up, with a single bullet wound beneath her left eye.
Special Agent Gary Griesmyer recounted Cortez' account of the day. "While they were playing cards and drinking Iraqi whiskey, the idea came to go out to an Iraqi house, rape a woman and murder her family," he testified.
Cortez said Barker told the young girl to "shut up" after she was raped, Griesmyer said.
Bierce said Barker told him he poured kerosene from a lamp on to the girl. It was not clear who set her on fire.
Barker later signed a sworn statement based on the interview, in which he said that on the day of the attack he, Cortez, Spielman and Green had been playing cards and drinking whisky mixed with an energy drink. They then went to the rear of the checkpoint where they ware based to hit golf balls.
Green said he wanted to go to a house and kill some Iraqis, Barker wrote in his sworn statement.
After the rape and murders, he wrote that he began to grill chicken wings.
The hearing continues.

You are a victim of the drive-by media. The question you ask smells like political bigotry. You present no facts. You only have emotion about something that scares you and you don't understand what to do about it.
