Californians may vote "absentee," what does that mean?

Absentee means you don't have to show up to a polling place on election day. The Registrar of Voters verifies your name, address, and status, and sends you a ballot several weeks before the election. Then you fill out the ballot and mail it back in a special envelope.
It was originally intended for people who were disabled and couldn't leave their homes, but anyone can do it.
It's much more convenient because you don't have to miss work to vote, and it lets the election officials count votes at a better pace. Works well for everyone. I am signed up as a "permanent absentee voter," so they will send me a ballot every year.

Don't other states have this too?!?

Well, absentee as in absent. You do not have to show up at the physical pole to vote. You can cast your ballot before the day and submit by way of absentee ballot. Go to your local voters registration office or elections board. Good luck and God bless

An abstentee ballot is for those you cannot attend a polling place and still want to vote. There are three ways of sending that in : mailing it, bringing it to the place and telling them that this is your absentee vote [kills standing in line], or having someone else drop it off for you (if someone else drops it off they will need id).

It's called an absentee ballot. It is where you mail it in before election day, but cannot be received after election day. I say, go for it little sister...

It's a form you can fill out and mail in, because for some reason (like being in the military and being over seas) you can't be there to vote in person.
