I am appalled by all the mock-violent answers to this question. Snoring is not a joke, and it's not just a nuisance. And the snorer is not doing it to annoy - they cannot control it by wanting to.
Snoring is often a symptom of a serious disorder called sleep apnea. This can damage his heart and even kill him. He needs to go to a sleep clinic without delay - ask his doctor to refer him.
In most cases apnea can be 100% eliminated by the use of a night breathing machine called a CPAP. It might take a night or two to get used to it, but then he will not only not snore AT ALL anymore, he will feel much better during the day, too.
Please do not delay in getting him to see a sleep specialist - it's very important! Contrary to what many people believe, you do NOT have to be overweight to have sleep apnea.

Has your partner seen a doctor about this? Snoring can be indicative of sleep apnea - a very serious, but treatable, disorder. I've heard that simply losing extra weight diminishes the snoring quite a bit. My husband snores a lot, he doesn't have apnea, but is somewhat overweight. We sleep in different rooms, works for us.

I found the only consistent way is to throw a pillow at them and they stay asleep for a while (grin). However, there was a device called the "Sleep Angel", if memory serves me correctly, it is worn about the head and chin area and it virtually eliminated the snoring. The only problem is getting the snoring partner to actually wear it. Also, I have an Uncle that actually had some type of surgery done on his throat and he stopped snoring.

I snore! lmao! I snore soooo bad..I sometimes scare the crap outta myself. I wake myself up snoring! Geeeeeeeeez, I wish I could find a way to stop. I have heard of a surgery they can do , but you have to have sleep apnea. Which means you stop breathing. Anyway, if you have him sleep on his side it may help. I snore even with my mouth closed. lol! My partner says he is used to it now and it doesn't even phase him anymore,BUT, sometimes he shakes the bed to wake me up so I will turn over on my side...of course, away from him! hehehehe! Try ear plugs, might help too. Good luck! I'm not overweight either

I too have this problem with my lovely husband. The best thing I can recommend is to get him to lay on his side away from you to try to make the n oise as little as possible. Also look in the drugstore for medicine they make to help keep nasal passages wet adn not dry which can cause snoring. Also be thankful that he snores as it always makes you know he doesn't suffer from sleep apnea and won't die in his sleep.

Looks like most of my suggestions have been taken, but I have a couple of things I do. I wake him and ask him to roll over. Usually, he doesnt really wake up, but he's alert enough to understand and it usually stops that way. If it doesnt and I have to ask 2 or 3 times, I'll go sleep in the guest room. My aunt wears ear plugs and it seems to work for her too. My husband tried the breath right stips when he was sick and they didnt help, but he hasnt tried them when he wasnt sick so I'm not so sure about their effectiveness.

I had the same problem with my husband. We went to the doctor who told him he needed to lose a little weight and gave him Nasacort AQ to open up the nasal passages so he would quit breathing through his mouth. He lost 10 pounds and is using the nasal spray and doesn't snore anymore. You may ask your partner to do the same.

My late wife used to snore quiet badly in our early years together. I used to give her a light kick when she started and she would stop and then I'd give her another light kick if she started again. Soon enough she stopped snoring.
And I do mean a "light" kick, I never hurt her or gave her a bruise thru it.

Plan A: Earplugs (pay a bit extra for a good set)
Plan B: Tennis ball sown into back of pj's so can't sleep on their back, lying on side sometimes helps
PlanC: The Spare room!!!
