They would vote for them if such candidates could get their names out there. Unfortunately, they can't, because they can't get the financial backing to spread the word & develop themselves as serious candidates. Unfortunately, it's all about the money - and now it's a vicious cycle. To get elected these days, you have to be wealthy, or....you at the very least need the backing of wealthy people.....in other words, you get your funding from people who are a part of the upper 5% - and guess what? You're then going to have to play to their interests.....while the Average Joe who makes $40,000 a year and can't contribute millions of dollars to a campaign - well - that person doesn't get represented by a realistic candidate. So - all of us are forced to choose between people who are endorsed by the wealthy & big business.
It's an ugly scenario - and I'm not quite sure how that situation will ever be resolved. Those in power aren't going to just voluntarily relinquish it.
Also - I have no doubt that policies instituted by Obama or Clinton would be FAR FAR FAR more beneficial to the (ever shrinking) middle & working class than your average Republican, who believes that it is big business, corporations, and multi-millionaires that should get the breaks. Steal from the poor, give to the rich......money redistribution indeed! (just the wrong way).

when you say police, firemen, nurses, do you mean the people who are making a hell of a lot more than the rest of us, why?sure nurses go to school and sacrifice, but, firemen and police they get their hansom salary while going to school, then have cushy Jobs when they get out, nurses are paid 60 to 100 X dollars per year so how can they be hurting? But, if you want some one who will put America first you damn sure will need to vote for something rather than a Dem or Rep, as they answer to the same master,if there is a difference other than rhetoric please show me, our country is in deep trouble unless we can elect a strong leader we won't have a country very long, and we damn sure won't find any strong leaders in the Dem's or Rep;s so we had better start looking else where, also the six O clock news and a 6 pack will not solve the problem,

American first, middle class first? Uhh most of us Americans - Democrats or Republicans are middle class. The only difference is that many of us who were in Middle Class earned a living and slowly became financially comfortable to be called Upper Class. Many of us support police officers, teachers, nurses, military members, and everyone in between, no matter what class we are. I have no idea what youre asking for. There cannot be a candidate who will just go up there like an idiot and be like im so and so and woooo middle class! Serving the country is not about what class gets the most respect because all classes are looked upon in an effort of equality. There are LOTS of other problems that candidates need to look at - such as the war, social security, illegal immigration, healthcare, you name it they have to deal with it. It's not as easy as you think to be president sweetheart.
And I pray to god that this country doesn't go to Obama (he can't run for president, hes age does not allow it), and Hillary (oh me oh my, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY!)
The reasons why we do not have great political figures anymore/running is because people stopped caring a long time ago. It's just donkey vs. elephant now and unfortunately no one cares to research about who they want to run their country.
The painful truth about what's wrong with this country is not that the middlle class is neglected, but its that there are a bunch of morons who do not know who or what they want and even bigger morons who think they can help them (i.e. Mrs. Hilary Clinton).

What makes you sure its not Obama or Clinton?
Personally, I think the Democrats have always tried to
represent the middle and lower classes ("tried" being the
operative word here). Certainly financially, the concept that
they deserve a larger share of the tax dollar then the upper class
does is pretty much a Democratic stronghold.
Where I see them failing is simply by failing to produce a
simple, coherent message for the country. Unfortunately, as
a result of Sound-bite Reaganisms, the country seems to
swing on the word of people who over-simplify.
I despise people who vote for something because their
party votes that way - if they don't understand why they
are voting for something, they should abstain. However,
I do believe that the concept of enlightened government
is far stronger than corrupt cynical government, which is
what we have now.

Not I! I will vote the the candidate who treats every American as equal - regardless of income, race, religion, etc. In other words, I will vote for the first candidate who promises a fair tax, an even playing field for everyone in the workforce (i.e. to end affirmative action), and schools that I choose rather than the government choosing for me.

YAY! America...Land of Mediocrity. Maybe that should be the ticket, huh?
Sheesh. Yeah, right.
One freedom that this country allows is to either rise above or fall below the middle class line, it is up to you.
That freedom is and has been provided by LEADERS now and throughout history, however unpopular they and their decisions may be.
PS. You missed the point, and I am a republican...you moron. I never fail to vote, and already voted for the mid terms. You?

I'm afraid that many Americans have been programed to expect the government to take care of them.
When a person gets that attitude, they don't stand up for anything.
They just vote Democrat, hold out their grubby little hands, and beg for more.
Hillary or Obama might throw them a little crumb.
