My baby is 7 months and still wakes up twice, too. I asked my pediatrician what I could do to help her sleep through the night and she said she has patient that is 18 months old and still wakes up. She said eventually they will grow out of it. Every baby is just different.

My son did this same thing until he was 18 months old. You can try giving him something to eat before he goes to bed like a snack or some oatmeal. It may be that he isn't getting enough to eat during the day and this is why he is waking up in the middle of the night. If that doesn't work you may just have to let him cry it out. It's easier said then done, but trust me you will both be happy when he is sleeping through the night. Also at this age they start having night terrors, his was of getting back to sleep is by you giving him milk. If that is the case try getting up to check on him 5-10mins before he usually wakes up and see if you can soothe him back to sleep with out actually waking him up. Good luck. Hope some of this helps.

My son is about to turn 1 year and a couple weeks ago I discovered that the reason he woke up every 1 1/2 or so was because he couldn't stand sleeping in his crib anymore, so I took his mattress out and put it on the floor. He now puts himself to sleep and only wakes up once a night for a diaper change and a couple ounces of warm milk. If by chance he does wake up more we let him cry and it only lasts about 10 minutes 15 at the most.

crying it out is not the only solution or the nicest. Some children are traumatized by being left to cry alone and not knowing what is going on.

My son is 16 months and just started sleeping through the night.

If you are giving a bottle, slowly add water and reduce milk, until you are just giving water. Eventually you will train his stomach not to crave milk in the middle of the night. He will start to sleep on his own when he is ready.

You probably don't want to hear this but we are only just able to say "No, you have to wait for the sun to come up for milk" to our 3 yr old! .... Without him having a fit and us giving in and letting him have it so we can go back to sleep.

I never had this problem with my first 2 children but my youngest was a complete milk fiend!

I tried giving him water, in the hope that he wouldn't be so inclined to wake for a less appealing drink but he just kicked off about that !

SO, I hope that you don't have to endure 3 yrs of it like we have and someone here can give you some sound advice.

Have a bedtime routine and stick with it! Something simple worked for us. Take a bath, have a bottle, read a story...then bed. There is no coming out of bed (except bleeding or sickness, etc..) until morning. We had to let our children cry it out the first couple of days...but once we did the routine for 2 days...yes really - just two days...they seemed more relaxed and were going to sleep and ready for sleep after the bath/bottle/story.

Your routine does not have to be exactly like ours, but something simple, and something you can commit to doing each night, so that they know it is bedtime.

P.S. We always give hugs and kisses all around and say "goodnight" also!

You could try letting him cry it out, but it does not always work. If after two weeks, he is crying more instead of less; give it up and wait a few months. My youngest boy was past 15 months before he slept through the night.

Babies can wake up from the slightest sounds (remember, they have better hearing than we do), changes in light (they have more sensitive eyes as well) need of a drink, or they wake up for "business" related reasons. It's fairly common for babies to wake up, but don't worry, your son will grow out of it with time.

Let him cry it out... It'll probably take a couple nights, but it's worth it. it's not good for him to be drinking that much milk during the night anyways
