It sounds more like a scam for the government to make money. But that doesn't mean there's not a problem.

Good point, just another excuse to squeeze some more money out of us! All this is,is another money making scheme which people on the whole are too scared to disagree with in case they are seen as short sighted or irresponsible for not trying to save the planet for future generations when in reality it doesn't make any difference what the British people do or any other countries population, why do we think we are so influential in changing the planet??? Earth was doing fine on its own for millions of years before the human race reared its ugly head, there have been ice ages, floods, very hot periods, did anyone else see the programme a while ago presented by Alan Tichmarsh? The whole global warming concern is a natural phenomenon that has been operating for more years than we can imagine, the difference now of course is that unlike in the past we now have the technology to measure and predict these natural trends and tax the **** of everyone in the name of "saving the planet" If the likes of Blair and Cameron weren't so far up their own backsides they might realise this and concentrate on doing something positive for the country instead of turning it into the miserable and oppressive place it is fast becoming.

Those are all excellent questions and should be answered. Unfortunately who is doing the answering is also the ones for the tax.
I don't believe that England should have to pay anymore tax on something that is global either and even further think how stupid that is. Tax on this. All we need to do is educate people in ways of reducing the pollution and that would make more sense.
Right now my partner and I (two people only) recycle nearly everything, we have two green bins that usually are overflowing and one rubbish bin that is rarely full.
We even visit the wate place and get rid of things thee that we can.
Old clothes that are still good go to charity as does anything else that we tend to part with. If it is in really good shape it goes on Ebay or Amazon for reseeling.
We keep hearing about standby and that is will save us £46 a year but does it pollute?
Maybe we should get rid of the SUV's, long haul trucks and schedule flights once a month instead of some insane tax.
I love the advert on the telly that deals with this very thing.
I do hope we all get the answers to your questions and I hope they are sensible and true ones.

Its not only the UK that will be taxing its citizens The European union is forcing a bill that will heavily tax cars with high co2 emissions . Norway will be one of the first countries to implement the tax ,and all cars with carbon dioxide emission's above a certain % get a whacking tax bill , A range Rover for example will now Have an extra 20000 £ in added green tax.
The idea is to get manufactures and buyers to shy away from gas guzzlers. and co2 emitters.
The real challenge will be to get the third world nations to do the same.

Perhaps what you need is a little more Libertarianism or Conservativism rather than Socialism which is where all of Europe is heading.
You are correct, Taxation is a Hydra rearing its ugly heads to gobble up your hard earned tax monies.
Why should any Industrialized country pony up if countries like India or China will not.
The Kyoto Accord is a scam designed to cripple current Industrialized countries so that others can take advantage and take their place. Notice how ever so much more is being produced in India and China for the world to consume.
Who can compete with them when they have an economic advantage and do not have to take responsibility for their pollution.

As with any governmental body that has a semblance of democratic or republic base, this all comes down to who represents the people. The people that have been chosen as your representatives have allowed a law or regulation to be passed requiring a tax on CO2, but they were put into place to do so by the majority of people within your country. It is a global problem, but not all countries have representatives that are able, willing, or that care about a tax as such.
It sucks to pay more money, but at least it's for something that MIGHT actually make a difference some day instead of just funneling into special interests.

Heavens, you mean the government would like us to keep paying increasing levels of tax?
As for your point about having the tax spent on what it was meant for - you jest of course.
As for who decides, I would love to be able to say "us" - at the next election, the problem is we have shysters in power now, we have shysters in opposition and some well meaning but disorganised "also rans" popping their heads up every now and again to see what is going on.
I just wish that our MP's were treated as they were decades ago. Little - if any - remuneration, perhaps not even expenses covered. People went into Government to serve their country, not to feather their own nests, appoint their wives as secretaries and to fiddle and cheat every penny then can. It did not appeal to many people - it COST money - not earned it - but the people who WERE MPs generally were folks you could respect and have confidence that they were not corrupt as all hell.
I have digressed a little and I apologise - BUT this question is I suspect, more about politics than the planet.

Yeah I'm with you on this one. We cause 2% of the global problem yet it looks like we're going to be squeezed dry to try to save the world. Like you, I'm willing to do my bit but I doubt all the money will go back into green issues.
They look for a motive to develop another tax, we pay tax on our earnings, if we wanna get another evening job we'll pay tax on that too, they tax you if you inherit from your parents who OWNED their house etc etc etc.
What bugs me is all these business people flying off round the world everyday for meetings (which are usually unnecessary), that they could conduct via video link or phone Agghhh!
But when it comes to the family who just about make ends meet and struggle to get one holiday abroad, they may longer be able to afford to!!
We'll soon be paying tax on the emissions from our breathing!
Anyway, me calm down a bit now....phew!

Even Tony Bliar has reluctantly admitted that the UK contributes about 2% to global warning. Unless and until the major polluters reduce their pollution our little portion is as nothing. If America,China,India and Australia wont sign up our efforts are of little effect.I support the reduction of pollution in the atmosphere, in the sea and on the land but in my view this is just another Labour scam to rob us blind as they have been doing since May 1997. Council Tax up by 70% since they came to office is just one example.
