Hello, I work for united utilities water so i can give you alot of info.
If you live on your own or with a partner and you both go out to work then the chances are you will save alot of money, rateable value which is what your on now was set by the council before 1990 they decided to give each house a (rv rating) which was based on the measurements of of your rooms in your house, the size of your garden, or the worst of it ....... if you have a bus stop outside your house or a shop over the road facing your house then the councils thought that this justified you paying a hell of lot more than your next door neighbour so you'd pay £60pm your neghbour may pay £30pm and you live in exactly the same type of house................ also if your in a flat the councill decided that because they are so rentable that they should make money of it too, the majority of the time people who live in flats pay alot more than someone who lives in a house.
Sorry its so long winded but i thought it would help your decision.
The only time i wouldnt recommend a water meter is if you have a very large family or you have a skin complaint that requires you to use alot of water.
I hope this helps you!

I've got a meter and it does work out cheaper than an annual bill. However this depends upon your water consumption. So if you do a lot of washing (dishwasher, washing machine etc.) it may be better to stick with the annual bill.

It depends on your annual water consumption. Certainly, if you use a lot of water, the ideal option would be the annual bill, but if you want to monitor your water consumption, & use very little, a meter is your best bet.

A rough guide is for average water users if there are fewer people in your house than bedrooms then a meter is cheaper. I had one fitted in May and will pay less than half my old bill.

Certainly works out cheaper for us and I regularly water the garden with a sprinkler in the summer (we had no hosepipe ban here) - just make sure there are no leaky pipes in or under or leading to your house.
Also make sure items such as showers, toilets, washing machines, etc are new and meet current water usage regulations which always helps - for example, using a modern dishwasher uses less water then washing up by hand.

We have a water meter and pay the same amount now, with four of us, as we did in our previous, non-metered, house with two people.

A water meter measures the amount of water that you use. not control it.

It certainly saved us money, even though we were a family of four, showers for all everyday and washing machine used most days, we also run a dish washer, you just need to be aware of your usage and not waste water

Only if you don't use lots of water. If you have a family then it could work out more expensive.
