because they are supposed to focus on studying and learning, not earning money.
In most states, children can start work at 16 (in special cases, at 14) if it doesn't interfere with their school time.

Back in the early 1900s, many children had to work to help support their families, but since there were no laws to protect them, they often had to do dangerous or unhealthy work, for long hard hours, and for less pay than an adult.

I think the problem is why don't the under 18s either stay in full time education or learn a trade to get a decent job. Maybe this will stop them hanging round the streets at night drinking booze and this general loutish behaviour we see so much of. I think all kids in the UK should have to stay at school until they are 18 because they are not mature enough to be in the real world.

Some of them do but most have an insentive to stay on further education now as most get the emi grant for staying on at school or college. Although money is not brilliant they do get paid for staying on.
Another reason is most jobs now adays require you to be 18 my daughter has tried to find a job as she does not qualify for emi and stayed on further education. You have to be 18 to work in music shops even the local spa shop.
Another reason no experience it is not like when i was young and left school straight into a job the young people have it really hard on that score today and i feel for them.

Minors may not work in certain occupations per the law. When they can and do work there are several restrictions on hours, use of machinery, etc. Why? Because they are minors and therefore a bigger liability under the law and business insurance. Plus there is a lot more paperwork involved when employing a minor (if the company is following the law).

But many teens under 18, work in various places, doing all sort of things, maybe just in your kneck of the woods.

It depends where you live - in the UK you can work part time from 16, maybe even younger.

However it is good to get an education first, so you know how to construct a sentence properly at least.

Because its the law. If you are 16 you can apply for a job but you need your parents approval and you cannot work past 10 I believe. Laws regarding child labor are very strict

my children went to work as soon as they left school at 16 as well as going to college, so not all children dont work and most go to college from school and that is more important.
