I tried to look it up on google, but could only come up with the date the book/movie was published, instead of the year which is taking place in the book.

It happens during the Civil War so the period is 1861 to 1865. Since it starts after the first months of the war, I would say 1862 or 1863 for the beginning date. I'm not sure what age Jo is at the end, but you can get to a very close date by comparing her age at the beginning with her age at the end.

Louisa May Alcott (the real Jo) worked in the hospitals in Washington during the Civil War. She was about six years older than the fictional Jo.

I think it will be fine. Maybe you should just include how fashion always comes back in certain points. I mean you always have some fashion revivals and I am sure this will be constant in the future. I would suggest however not to call it "20s era fashion" but simply describe the cloth they wear. Or mention for example "this style was customary for the Lords and Ladies since almost 150 years (or whatever), but could be dated back to be first mentioned in the 1920s" ...if you get what I mean ;-) I think as a reader I would like if you would "create" your own fashion style maybe for the lowest class, which is not that old. It could be "only" few hundred years old...So you could argue that for Pangellians it means "the older the fashion, the nobler the fashion", so poorer people are not allowed "old styles" Hope this helped a little Edit: seeing the criticism about your time, I don't dig it either, but I personally think it is up to you. It might however push readers away, who otherwise might enjoy your story...
