I'm not a Catholic, but I know that MOST (not all) Catholic churches believe it is wrong. I agree with them... It just seems as if most people's reason for aborting is selfish... because they don't want people to know what they've done, or because they are afraid of something... you know?
The reason that some people believe that aborting is okay is because they believe that life doesn't start at conception... they think there are only a bunch of cells in the mother's stomach... The thing is, this has never been scientifically proven... To me it seems obvious - life starts when it starts, and it starts when something is there - no matter how small it is...
It seems to me that people choose to believe that it's a bunch of cells in order to tell themselves that abortion is okay... it's what they want to believe so they can do what they want.
Also, a lot of people who think abortion is okay act as if there are only two choices... to abort the baby or to keep it... There's always adoption... some people have supportive families who would be willing to care for the baby... you know? There are always other options.
As far as what can we do to stop it? I don't know... This is a free country, but I still don't think that people should be allowed to do something that I see as being murder... I guess the major problem is that they don't see it as murder... the first step, then, isn't to force them to stop abortion through the law or through any other means (force is never a good way to do anything), but to help them to accept that there is life there, not just a bunch of cells. At the same time, we have to be there for those same people... Most, not all, of the people who commit abortions feel incredible and totally unexpected regret after doing so, and it often haunts them for the rest of their lives... an I-told-you-so attitude is never going to help any of these people - especially considering that they are the people who can best help those who are considering having an abortion... because they've been there and they know what it's like.

Women's health has come a long way, that's my answer.

Dear Alice,
I have just found out that I am one week pregnant. My boyfriend and I both agree that it is not the time for this. We do not have the money for an abortion. Is there any way to safely force a miscarriage?
Dear Reader,
Trained, qualified health care providers safely terminate pregnancies since there is no safe way to induce (or force) a miscarriage on your own. Before abortion was legalized in the United States as a choice for women in 1973, millions of women tried "do-it- yourself" methods or visited "back-alley doctors" to end unwanted pregnancies. Thousands died, and many more were permanently injured.
It's important not to let money stand in the way of your health care. Abortion costs vary depending on the setting — clinics, such as Planned Parenthood, tend to be less expensive (some even have sliding scale fees); private hospitals and doctor's offices usually are more expensive. If you are at a university, funds for this type of procedure may also be available. Many private health insurance plans pay for some or all of the expenses. Medicaid covers the cost of abortion in some, but not all, states. The National Network of Abortion Funds provides a listing of community abortion funds throughout the U.S. These funds provide financial aid to help low income women obtain an abortion. Their toll-free hotline is 1.800.772.9100.
First trimester abortions (abortions up to the thirteenth week of pregnancy) typically cost between $300 - 400. Since you are about one week along in your pregnancy, you may also have a choice between a medical/chemical abortion using Mifepristone (formerly known as RU-486) and a surgical abortion. A health care provider will be able to give you additional info (or you can check on your own). As the pregnancy progresses, pregnancy terminations become more expensive and providers more difficult to find, as risks and complications from the procedure also increase.
Pregnant and Undecided in Alice's Sexual Health archive explains how abortions are performed and also gives other related info and options. You can get information on crisis pregnancy counseling in your area through Planned Parenthood at 1.800.230.PLAN (-7526).
Fortunately, women in the U.S. today, even those with low income, have various options and resources available to them.

I grew up catholic and still feel that abortion is a womans choice. There are many reasons that a woman would choose to have one and that is her own choice. This is a subject that people are going to fight over until the end of time. There is no right or wrong when it comes down to it. It is all just a matter of opionion. Some believe that it is a living thing and others believe that it is not living until it breaths on its own and its own body systems can support them selves. So no matter what someone chooses to do that is there choice and no one has the right to tell them that they were wrong. I would like to know what some of these women that say that it is murder would do if they were really raped and got pregnant would they keep it and the entire 9 months have a daily reminder of the horrible thing that has happened to them and not be able to get away from it. The can say they would have it but when and if it ever really happened I bet they would change their minds. I know if it were me there would be no way in hell I would carry that child for 9 months knowing how it was concieved. I would have an abortion seek some kind of conciling and try to get on with my life.

evryone always askes this question and most feel it is wrong and the rest feel it is a personal decision. It will be a never ending contraversial subject forever. This will never change, due to human rights. I think it is wrong, but that is my opinion. There is nothing we as one can do to stop abortion, or even we as a large group. We can limit it to age 18, and with adult signature, but that is about all we can do. I wish there were more options, but there isn't. As far as the Catholic perspective......I didn't know it was any different. I am LDS and am against abortion along with alot of the LDS people I know. I think religion has nothing to do with it.

I believe the Catholic religion states that abortion is wrong no matter what the circumstances.
I could be wrong, I haven't been in a Catholic church since high school.

It's wrong because God says it is: Thou shalt not kill.
The bible also states that God knew you before you were born which proves that you are a baby before birth.. not just "tissue".
We can pray. That's the first and foremost thing we can do. Pray for new legislation... Pray for the mothers that were uneducated about abortion and so proceeded with one... Pray for those that feel that a baby is nothing more than tissue with no spirit... and pray for the young women who are considering abortion as an option.
Secondly, you can show this site to those who feel that aborted babies aren't babies: http://www.abortiontruth.com/pictures.html
