Because of the whole religious tradition that says that sex is evil. That attitude has permeated the culture. You don't have to be religious to be sexually neurotic - but it helps!

Yeah, I get REALLY grumpy, and post stupid questions that will probably be deleted. :-)

Depends what you count as a 'lack' though - I need a LOT compared to some people I know.

I've never felt guilty or unclean about sex, or masturbation - it's a natural part of life, and my sex-drive is part of me. The unhealthy part is too many one-night stands and not enough long-term boyfriends, but sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs, right?

You kiss frogs to find your prince, silly! Didn't your mother read you fairytales when you were little?

shyboy,
There are three words that come to mind:
Acceptance, Contentment, and Choice.

Acceptance, because the predicament that we either put ourselves in, or the one we find ourselves in places us apart from what we intended. We might begin to attempt to kick against this position, but a lot of times that can hurt us more.

Contentment: That is gained through peace. Or it could be defined as, " ceasing to be against" whatever sitiation we find ourselves in. Acceptance once again becomes the issue.

Choice: Whether the predicament is our fault or not, we can struggle to get out of it, or we can peacably accept it. This leads me to where I was going in the first place. Because we sometimes act impulsively, without deeper thought. We make the choice to cause ourselves more pain that way. As I use this quote often, it reminds me of my own situation:

"You have already made the choice, you just have to understand it." - The Oracle, The Matrix Reloaded

it may not cause stress, but it can prevent stress from being released in a healthy way. there is nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to sex. people who feel guilty or unclean have sexual issues that need to be worked out with a therapist.

i assume it might matter upon the reason of the lack of sex. Say someone is in a relationship the position they have sex with their significant different on a daily foundation and then the significant different not needs to have sex, then that would want to certainly reason pressure. Or if someone feels a sturdy emotional connection throughout the time of sex, they could crave that feeling and subsequently be less than pressure out. I dunno. i wager it impacts everyone in yet differently.

Sex is very healthy, as long as you are safe. Having sex releases hormones that makes your skin look better, it reduces your stress, and is the best way to lose weight because it's actually a good work out =)

YES! People feel guilty, because as a society we put too much emphasis on how dirty, unclean and how unnatural it is. Sex is a a gift.

Yes, is certainly can in some people.People who feel guilty or un -clean are probably doing it with someone other than their husband or wife. Between a husband and wife there is no guilt trip.

It is said in the Vedas if a man releases seaman to often he will become dull headed and less intelligent. It takes blood away from the brain. So best to save it for your intelligence. The human life is meant for realizing we are not these bodies we are spirit but if we have sex unnecessarily (not for procreation) then we will become attached to the bodily conception of life and have to keep returning to the material world.
