So much has been made recently about telenovelas which are in a general sense, soap operas with a set storyline. Things that have existed "forever" are now being marketed with a Latin spin and it's puzzling. Saying something is based in a specific culture just for the $$ and attention cheapens it, no? Serialized stories have existed in all cultures.

It is distinctly different from a soap opera because it ends.

Latin-izing? Maybe its just marketing to a different segment of people. Just like McDonald's using rap to market to blacks. Is that Africanizing?

It is about the money. People are realizing that the only color that really matters is green and will market to any segment to get it. It's not an attack on WASPs, it's a realization that this country is very diverse.
