The nurse just called me to schedule a colposcopy for my abnormal pap test. She said that from a level of concern from 1 being least and 10 being very concerned(usually cancer) that im about a 4 or 5. Should i be freaking out?!?

Nah. Abnormal pap smears are scary buggers, but as long as you go in for your colposcopy and get any necessary treatment, you shouldn't worry (although I doubt that statement has magically calmed you down).
There are only about 10,000 cases of cervical cancer diagnosed annually in the US, out of 3.5 *million* abnormal pap smears per year. Your worst case scenario is cervical cancer, which is highly treatable when caught early. You are doing the right thing by getting taken care of.
Call her back and ask what the specific diagnosis is: she should tell you an acronym (I would suspect LSIL or CIN-some number). You can google it and find out what's going on.

That happened to my sister. She had abnormal results, so they investigated further by doing a colposcopy. She said it didn't hurt that much, and there was a little bleeding afterwards. The good part was that everything came out normal. Plus, if the nurse didn't sound that concerned, then it sounds like they are just investigating as to why it was abnormal. Sometimes, even things such as infections can cause an abnormal pap.

This is actually very common among women. I had it happen to me when I was in high school. I started freaking too, then I found out that there were all kinds of women I knew that had it done. (it's just not something that comes up in regular conversation). I had to go for three biopsies (after my colposcopy didn't come back okay). This is when they actually take a piece (or a few) out of your cervix for testing. I found that part painful. After mine were tested, they decided they were "bad", so they scheduled me at the hospital for laser surgery. I found the surgery far less painful than the biopsies. The surgery is really more embarrassing and uncomfortable than painful. They will freeze you inside with a needle, but it only felt like a quick pin prick. But with any luck, yours aren't "cancerous" like mine were. And if they are, remember, it is quite common, and it's not that big of a procedure. Nothing us women can't handle! :-)

I wouldnt be freaking out.. but I would be concerned... but only cause I know I would be. In saying this... abnormal pap results are not "uncommon". I would ask just what exactly was abnormal about it.. what do they think they are looking for? (HPV is very common, and very treatable. This is prob the most common "abnormal" result) Take a deep breath... and try not to worry too much. Blessings

no. wait and see what the problem is. don't loose your cool. it could be something like a cyst, or a fibroid tumor. both are not real bad and alot of women get them. it could be alot of things. what i would do is call the Dr. and ask them what they have diagnosed you with and go to this web site www.webmd.com good luck and don't stress yourself out go to the spa and treat yourself.
