egyptian rattle snake is very fun. its hard to explain but its sorta like war the whole deck is split among the players. then 1 card is placed down. and then in order the person just puts down 1 card. and when a card matches with the card before it then the first person to slap the card pile gets the cards. and if it has one card then a random care then another card that matches the one 2 spaces away u can also slap it for the cards example 5,5= you can slap 5,6,5= you can slap 5,6,7,5=no slap 3,5,2=no slap 77=slap and if a person slaps and its not matchign cards then they have to place a card under the pile i think. for more info you can most likely search it but its not really a large played game. its basically a elimination game. the one that still has cards at the end wins.

My personal favourite is Bridge, but Whist is a good way to pick up the skills to play bridge.
If you want something with a quicker pace, there is a four handed version of Cribbage

Hearts is a great game my wife and I play with her parents when they visit. We also love "Pshaw!" Easy to learn and more challenging the more you play it. Also Gin Rummy is a lot of fun! Good luck!

we like to play liverpool rummy in my family.
there are 7 hands (or rounds) to the game.
we do not use jokers or wild cards of any kind.
we say ME when we want a card and its not our turn.
you have to have the required contracts of each hand to lay your cards down.

this site explains pretty well how to play.
