I need to know if I should be using crib bumbers in my 6 month olds crib. I am not sure is it is a good idea cause she is now rolling all over and moves herself all around in the crib and the other night her little legs were like hanging out of the little bars. So I need to know if I should be using a bumper? And if I should how safe are these.

Around 6 months, that's when we removed ours- our son too was rolling all over and I was afraid he'd get stuck or something bad would happen. And we did have the occassional problem of his legs getting stuck in the bars.... so we'd have to go help him out of that... but it only happened a few times. I'd get rid of the bumper pads though. We have a fish tank, and our son loves that those pads are off so he can look around his room, and even stare at the fish tank. He even giggles sometimes- at what, I have no idea. lol It's cute!

I would definitely be using bumpers while the child is small, particularly while rolling around, to protect her from bumps and bruises and legs dangling out. The danger with bumpers, that I have ever heard, is that the children step up onto them when they start standing and can fall out of the crib that way. If you are worried about a breathing hazard I would get bumpers that are not so super padded maybe - though they usually attach at top and bottom so it is unlikely that baby will get tangled or behind it if you fasten it securely.

Peace!

I use Trend Lab's Breathable Bumper, because it keeps my 6 month old son's legs and arms from getting stuck in the crib slats, but it also allows air to flow into the crib and isn't strong enough for him to use as a stepping stool to fall out of the crib. It attaches pretty well. See a review here: http://www.epinions.com/content_268753014404

I still use a bumper in my six month olds crib. He gets his little legs stuck between the bars in the middle of the night and screams. He also still takes a pacifier, and a bumper helps keep it in his bed (and I don't have to search all over the place for it). I just keep it tied tight to the bed, and tuck it in along the mattress. Hope that helps!

If you want to be extra safe so that your baby's face does not get caught in betweeen the bumper and crib you could sew on extra ties to the bumper. Or go to One Step Ahead's website it sells a breathable "bumper" to velcro into the crib. This allows air to circulate and your baby's limbs to stay in the crib. good Luck : )

I always had one on my daughters crib. otherwise, her leg would get stuck in between the bars and and i would have a fear of her rolling over and braking something if it was caught in there. In my opinion they work great. It really did help. They are safe because they attach to the crib by either strings or velcro.

there's been some stuff out there saying that bumpers may cause the air flow to not be as good which may possibly be a cause of sids. my twins both have bumpers becuz they're the same way-their little arms and legs getting stuck in the bars.
i've personally never heard of anyone having a problem.

I use them but get a good quality one that ties to the bars really tight and tuck it into the sides of the crib mattress a little bit.

I have a six month old son doing the same thing. Anyway, get a bumper that the baby can breath through.

The matress should be good and tight against the bars first of all. Ask your dr....depends on the crib also..
