First let me ask everyone who just wants to rant to please find somewhere else to do it. I want real and honest debate. That being said here is the question:

If the religion of Atheism uses evolution to explain our existence and some Christians use intelligent design, and neither THEORY can be proved or disproved, why is evolution the only theory allowed to be taught in public schools? Does anyone else feel that other theories, not exclusive to intelligent design, should be given equal time. After all, by stating that there is no God, the theory of evolution already brings religion into the picture. It is saying that God does not exist. Is this not a religious belief of Atheism? And, shouldn't be banned along with the intelligent design? I suggest that instead of banning one or the other on the basis of religion, we give equal time to both and stress that both are just THEORIES. This would allow our youth to make their own decisions. Why should we dictate that?

Those of us who are not ignorant food tubes believe that the large organ at the top of our spinal chord (the brain) actually has a purpose. We use our senses to gather information and try to fit all the information into a common puzzle that makes logical sense to our brain. We have found that this works much better than getting all of our information from Christian comic books. We look at things like the decay of radioactive elements, the fossil record, geological processes, chemical analyses of geologic samples and so on and come up with a theory. We then look at the logical implications of that theory (hypotheses) and test with independent data whether those hypotheses are true. And guess what. We've come up with a set of theories that not only explains the vast majority of what we know about our world, but also has tremendous power to predict new discoveries and make peoples lives better. The process is called the SCIENTIFIC METHOD, and it is arguably the most successful invention of the human mind. Moreover, there's nothing in it that contradicts belief in God or biblical morality. Join us in the 21st century sometime, won't you?

I wouldn't classify Aetheism as being a religion-- its really a lack of religion.

Evolution is based on science not religion that's why its taught in science class even in religious schools (I went to catholic school and it is taught there). Many aspects of evolution are proven by scientific methods -- The theory of relativity is also theory, but again, it is based on Math and scientific thinking, not religion.

Intelligent design is a spin on creationism and evolution. So, it is based on faith and not science.

Oh- and Athesim and Evolution have nothing to do with each other. And, just because one is Christian or Jew or Muslim or whatever, it doens't mean you can't buy into evolution.

I think that first of all, I am tired of the theory of evolution being given so much credibility. Tested by methods that can't be tested.

If this theory is so credible, why did I find it buried in my 1st grader's reader? Is this not indoctrination. My son's teacher and principal agreed with me, and they kept him in the computer lab during the discussion of this "story."

If there are parents who feel like we do, do not complain if you are not reading your elementary school child's books...

Lastly, I think these scientific theories would not require equal time at all, if they kept the subtle references out of the elementary books.

Let them teach evolution to high school students only. Then it won't matter.

The theory of evolution does not state that there is no God. I know some Christians who believe in evolution. They take the stories in the Bible more figuratively. Not accepting evolution in modern times is equivalent to not accepting that the earth revolves around the sun in ancient times. Christians will catch up eventually with evolution, just as they eventually accepted that the earth revolves around the sun.
