Currently I'm reading "The Day of Locust" by Nathanael West. Its a classic. Its about Hollywood in the 1930s.The crime, prostitution, lost dreams, unfulfilled promises, and the overall deceit centred around this world of illusion. Naturally, written during the Great Depression and World War I, the novel has a fatalistic theme. Its a short read, only about 202 pages, and is often referred to as a novella (between a novel and a short story). The novel was also featured on Time Magazines "All-Time 100 Novels" (http://www.time.com/time/2005/100books/the_complete_list.html). As a bonus, its fairly cheap and only costs $9.99. You may find it interesting that the author Nathanael West was a neighbour to F. Scott Fitzgerald, the author of "the Great Gatsby". They both died within 6 days of each other. Nathanael West has also written other books such as; Miss Lonelyhearts, A Cool Million, and The Dream Life of Balso Snell. Its a great, fast read that will leave you highly stimulated. Refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathanael_West and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Locust. Hope this helps!

Ive read 3 books in the last month and a half..the first is called "the lions game"-by Nelson DeMille- very good, highly reccomended
"angels and Demons"-Dan Brown-fantastic, better than the DaVinci Code."the cobra event" Nelson Demille- very very high reccomended. Right now I am about a ozen or so pages away from finishing "bannermans ghosts"-by John Maxim-good book starts slow but has ended up to be a really good read also.
Knowing what kind of books you like to read would help but these booksare in the genre that I like

I just finished "Shot In The Heart" by Mikal Gilmore.
Excellent book, although kind of disturbing.
Mikal Gilmore's brother, Gary Gilmore was the first person executed after the Supreme Court lifted a ban on executions in the mid 1970's.
Shot In The Heart is about Gilmore's family history, and his relationship with his older brother, Gary.
There are even some pretty creepy ghost "stories" in the book.

I recommend reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's "The Mists of Avalon" which is a brilliant adaption of the King Arthur story with lots of different characters.
