Q. Is there really a curse on "The Exorcist" set?
A. Box office numbers for 2004’s Exorcist: The Beginning would indicate yes, but let’s examine the conflicting facts.

1) "Curse? There is no curse, never was!" said author Blatty, in an interview. "When you've been shooting over a year, it's always nice to have demons to blame," he said of the 1973 film.

2) Ellen Burstyn, who played Regan's mother in the first film, has talked about strange happenings on the set, including a mysterious fire that destroyed several props. She also suffered a spinal injury while shooting. Linda Blair injured her back when a piece of the rig broke as she was thrown about on the bed, and the pain has been with her ever since.

3) A 1973 article written by Judy Klemesrud states, “It's been reported that once inside the theater, a number of moviegoers vomited at the very graphic goings-on on screen. Others fainted, or left the theater, nauseous and trembling, before the film was half over. Several people had heart attacks, a guard told me. One woman even had a miscarriage, he said.” Heart attacks are common theme — The Exorcist’s director (William Friedkin) and star (Jason Miller) both had heart attacks (Miller’s killed him in 2001).

4) Exorcist: The Beginning has been plagued with bad luck from day one. John Frankenheimer was originally set to direct, but pulled out of the project a month before he died of a stroke following spinal surgery. Paul Schrader was hired to take his place, but after he completed the film, Warner Bros. execs were unhappy with the finished product, and they replaced him with Renny Harlin. Harlin was given a bigger budget and ended up re-shooting ninety percent of the film. Harlin did not escape the bad luck: he was hit by a car shortly after filming started in Rome and had to direct the entire film on crutches with his leg in a cast. So far, Paul Schrader, director of the “other” prequel, released in 2005 and called Dominion is safe and sound.

5) Christian evangelist Billy Graham claimed an actual demon was living in the celluloid reels of the 1973 movie. (Heck, that’s all the proof I need!)

6) The Exorcist is the first horror film to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and if adjusted for inflation, it would be the top grossing R-rated film of all time.

A lot of critics said that there is really no curse on the set that all the bad things that happened were coincidences since the movie was created as a horror film which really did affect the cast and crews. It is all a state of mind like in the horror movie, The Omen, which was also said to be cursed by evil.

For me they should have started the movie with prayer, maybe that should get rid of all the bad luck happening in the set. Well, you decide..
