We just moved into our home, and it is not brand new, so we know this heater has worked in the past. Do electric heaters have pilot lights? I can hear some activity when the water is running upstairs, but no heating occurs.

Make sure the breakers on the main electrical panel are turned on. There is also an overload/reset breaker on most water heaters. Remove the cover and reset this as well. If it still doesn't heat, the electric coil or coils are probably defective. These can be purchased for about $20-$25 each at Home Depot. Some water heaters only have one - some have two. Good luck.

If the house is old enough you may need new heating elements for the water heater. These elements heat the water inside the tank like a long neon light emersed in water.

Check the breaker and the thermostat setting on the water heater. Electric heaters do not have pilot lights. I assume you had your home inspected before you bought it (shame on you if you didn't), so the heater should work.

theres a cover covering the settings in front .. open or take off cover and see what the setting is on.. turn it up higher 2 heat the water.. and someday after showers, go down and bleed your tank, by turning on spigot.. and have a bucket under spigot 2 catch the water.. not much else can compare 2 a nice hot shower : )

power turned on to heater? do you get any water when you open hot water faucets? if no then check water intake valve at heater... or your heater might have tripped and needs tobe reset
