The best snowboarding is in Utah. It sounds like a lame place to go but all the resorts are open all day every day and some places even have night skiing. I grew up there and the snow is amazing and it's not too far to fly. There are even some resorts that are ski only for better ski terrain. If you fly into Salt Lake there are 4 resorts about 20 minutes away in Sandy and there are 3 in Park City too. Here is a link that links you to all the Utah ski resorts: http://www.utah.com/ski/resorts/.

In the West go to Utah
Alta is great but no snowboarding, unless thats changed since my brothers worked there a few years ago.
Or Snowbird in Utah also

In Ny Try Whiteface(Iceface) or Gore, more to do around Whiteface and Lake Placid

A good Family ski area in Ny is Titus Mountain

Lake Tahoe, on the California - Nevada border. Lots of resorts, every size from Squaw Valley (former Olympic Village) to tiny rope tow places with great ambiance. If you get tired of skiing or 'boarding, go gaming or to a show. The buffets at the casinos in Nevada are pretty inexpensive so you can ski a lot and spend very little on everything else.
Also, the scenery is spectacular!

The best one that I every experienced was when I went to Switzerland over the Christmas season. I spend a few days at St. Moritz and then a few at Wengen at New Years. It was great. The atmosphere was festive and friendly. Plus we got a dump of powder on New Year's Eve...
