Many European cultural traditions hold that Halloween is one of the liminal times of the year when spirits can make contact with the physical world and when magic is most potent (e.g. Catalan mythology about witches, Irish tales of the Sídhe). This fits perfectly into the Harry Potter stories and I think it is no coincidence that Halloween is always a lousy day for Harry; it is the day that Harry's parents were murdered, he encountered the Mountain troll, the basilisk attacked Mrs. Norris - Harry was blamed, it was the day of the first trip to Hogsmeade - Harry wasn't allowed to go and Sirius attacked the Fat Lady - worrying everyone, Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire - which Harry and Ron argued about.
Halloween *isn't* a time for Muggles to make fun of their world, it is a day they honor traditional beliefs. Halloween originated as a Pagan festival among the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain with Irish, Scots, Welsh and other immigrants transporting versions of the tradition to North America in the 19th century. Considering the fact that Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is English, and her stories take place in England, with characters with those backgrounds I think it is highly appropriate that they celebrate Halloween. Note that they don't dress up in costumes, they only observe the day, with jack-o-lanterns and a feast which includes treats.

Okay. a million. Dumbledore. two. Voldemort. three. Grindelwald. four. Moody. five. Snape. 6. Bellatrix 7. Kingsley eight. McGonagall nine. Potters (James and Lily) 10. Longbottoms I centered this record on what we all know from the books and what sort of enjoy the characters have had. That's why the more youthful characters did not make it onto the record. Also, nine and 10 are instead interchangeable in view that I recognize the Longbottoms and Potters have been each excellent duelers, being very priceless within the Order, however I do not know if both used to be fairly greater than the opposite. I simply idea they must each be at the record.

I think that the WW observes Halloween for the same reason that the Muggles do. That is because it is the day before All Saints Day and All Souls Day.
Are you going to anyone death day party this year? I am sitting here at my Muggle job dress as a death eater (undercover spy work). Silly Muggles think that I am just dress up for the day. Little do they know that I have few Muggles costumes, but lots of Witch/Wizard clothing.

You are over-thinking. Why in the world WOULDN'T witches and wizards celebrate Halloween? Muggle preferences are irrelevant. Don't know who you've been talking to, but most HP and non-HP fans agree on this one.

maybe because its a day for "muggles" to celebrate witches and wizards they can ....be themselves without being found out.
its also all souls day or day of the dead and that goes with the witch wizard theme.
i went for a more "fictional" answer just like the books traditional halloween was so spirits didnt take over your body if u looked like you were dead already.

I think that maybe they celebrate also because it is a way for them to be out in the open without revealing who they really are. The one time in the year where they really don't have to hide from muggles. (or maybe they like a party and celebration as much as anyone)

Actually the history of halloween is to dress up like witches and gouls so that the souls stuck in limbo looking for a body to possess don't desire that one and move on. Look up the history of Halloween, and you will understand.
