At this point he's not even the greatest to never win a championship. I would give Marino that nod. I do think when he's done though he will be mentioned as one of the best ever.

He hasn't lived up to the hype just like Ryan leaf? Thats the craziest thing I've ever heard. How long was leaf in the league? Like 3 or 4 yrs and was a complete flop before drinking himself out of the league and peyton is a 4 time MVP. Yeah, he has just the one super bowl win, but football is a team sport. How many super bowls does Bradshaw win without the steel curtain? ZERO. By the end of his career peyton will own just about every major qb stat on the books. Best ever? I don't know. Bust? Definately not!

Peyton Manning is a very talented QB. Greatest ever? Not hardly. Now he still has probably 4 or 5 years left to play, could he get to that point? Possibly. Right now that Indy pass attack is the best in the league. Unfortunately that D of theirs is looking like the swiss cheese D of old for them. Is there a better O in the league than Indy? No. Are there better all around teams than Indy? Several. That lack of D will keep them from a championship yet again.

I think too many people judge quarterbacks based on how many SuperBowls they win. A SuperBowl takes the entire team to win and not just the quarterback. Brady has won three, but he had teams to work with that other teams could only dream of. Other people mention Unitas and older quarterback, but I don't think they played against quite the talent that we see in the NFL today.
I think a quarterback should be judged on his abilities and mental smartness. Players and defenses don't go on and on about him because he isn't good, there's a reason. If you are going to compare quarterbacks, look at what they can do. Can they consistently hit their target? Can they throw the defense off-guard? How big of a bag of tricks do they use? What's their completion percentage? Can they make the big plays?
I'll put it this way. I think Peyton Manning is the most talented/smartest quarterback ever. If being the greatest is dependent upon fame and Super Bowls then pick someone like Joe Montana ,Terry Bradshaw or Steve Young.
I haven't seen anyone be able to confuse defenses like Peyton or make long bombs into double and triple coverage with such pinpoint accuracy. Manning will use almost every trick in the book to win. Game after game after game they try to figure him out and always wind up confused and amazed at his ability. If the Colts had a defense like the Patriots had, it would be the Colts that would now have 3-4 Super Bowl titles.
I think it should be based on talent not titles.

Probably not even in the top 10, certainly not even the greatest active QB, that would have to be Tom Brady!
Terry Bradshaw - 4 SB
Joe Montana - 4 SB
Tom Brady - 3 SB
Troy Aikman - 3 SB
Steve Young - 3 SB
John Elway - 2 SB (played in 5)
Roger Stauback - 2 SB (played in 4)
Bart Star - 2 SB
Bob Griese - 2 SB
Johnny Unitis - 1 SB (played in 2, SB wasn't even created till late in his career)
The job of the QB is to lead his team to victory, win games, get to the playoffs, win SBs, it is NOT to complete passes, scramble, find receivers, throw long down the field, throw acurately, put up record stats, look pretty, screw cheerleaders, sell razorblades or pick-up trucks. So, no, not even in the top 10, sorry........
(Like someone else said, he's not even the greatest to NEVER win a championship! - Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and I really like his coach and if those two can EVER get it together to win a SB, nobody will be more pleased than I......)

I would put Montana and Marino above him right now, but he has a few seasons left in him still. I would put him equal to Elway, and remember that Elway was labeled as a choker quite a bit until they managed to rack up a few Super Bowl wins. He is probably the smartest quarterback to ever play the game. He can run an offense by himself without an offensive coordinator. No other QB in today's NFL can do that, and I doubt that most of the historical greats could do that in this day and age with the complexity of the systems being run in the NFL today.

Peyton is an awsome qb and will be considered one of the greatests of all time, just as Marino and Fouts have in the past. Great arm but no championship. That could however change.

There have been ALOT of QBs who were better than Manning in the NFL. Remember, Peyton is Peyton because he is a great thrower of the ball, but more so because of who he has to throw to. Marvin Harrison, Hall of famer, Reggie wayne (in 4-5 years may be a HOF'er), he had Edgerin James for a long time, Dallas Clark, Brandon Stokley, HE HAS ALOT OF WEAPONS, that helps. I think as good as Manning has been, if you stuck Dan Marino or John Elway, or Joe Montana, or Joe Namath, or Johnny Unitas, Or Sonny Jurgenson, or Brett Favre, or Steve Young, or Troy Aikman, or any number of QBs on that Colts offense and their numbers would be same if not BETTER than Mannings. Especially Marino, Elway, Favre, and Namath. all AMAZING throwers of the ball.

Peyton is a very, very good quarterback. If he keeps playing at such a high level, he will break a lot of records. However, he needs to prove his big-game ability by winning a few Super Bowls. If he continues to choke in big games, he will never even come close to competing with Joe Montana for the title of "best quarterback ever." He's got a lot of years left in his career... so we'll see what he can do.

As of right now he is not even in the top five. However by the end of his career when all is said and done I believe he will be. With no rings or even super bowl apperances he has a long way to go, but he is the most talented out there QB with quite a few years left in his carreer which still gives him enough time to win some rings and become a legend.

No. the best qb I ever saw play was either John Elway, or Danny Marino. Both Elway and Marino were NEVER done...you could ALWAYS count on them to make a comeback at the end of the game and make it close, if not win. Manning has not had the time YET to make his fame as a comeback qb, but he may....just not YET, K? From what I have seen, he plays out in front with the lead, but he COULD become one of those great unbeatable qbs. His brother Eli Manning has shown an IMPRESSIVE propensity for come-from-behind wins already this year!!!
