It's rather common to hear that a man does not like children. On the other hand, it's pretty rare to hear that a woman does not like children. Are there any women who do not like children in general, and who aren't afraid to say so?

I'm in my mid-thirties and have a son, but I'm not afraid to say that I don't care for children in general. I love my son very much, but I never had a burning desire to have children and I don't plan to have any more.

I wish more women felt comfortable talking about not liking children or feeling ambivalently about them or not enjoying motherhood. Oprah did a show on this a while back and the backlash was HUGE. It was sad to see such a negative reaction to women openly expressing negative or ambivalent feelings about motherhood.

Like you said, men can say this and people don't think much of it.

well i am not afraid to say that i don't like kids...they are completely annoying...when the world is o overpopulated we don't need anymore....also some people just plain don't need to reproduce...it is the quality not the quantity that we should focusing on....and the only reason so many women love children is because society has told them that that is all they have...family..they can't be career minded because that would take time away from the kids at home....no one ever mentions that fact that men can stay home too...but wait he makes more money than the wife because her pay is cut because she marked F instead of M on her application!

I love kids, especially when you get to spoil them and send them home. LOL. No, actually I have met a few women in my lifetime that don't want kids. They are happier working and living a 'free' life while paying child support and only having partial visitation. I have also met a few that wouldn't have kids if they came out of the womb grown with a check from Ed McMahon.

My sister and aunt. They don't hate children, they just don't want them for themselves. My sister went so far as to get her tubes tied at age 19 so that she would not get pregnant. Some women want their lives to themselves and do not want to give up their freedom for children. I admire this form of "selfishness" much more than the woman who has children for the sake of "fitting in" when she really doesn't want to.

I admit it. They're too noisy and chaotic and scare the hell out of me. I never wanted to have children, but I had no choice. I love my kids very much, but there were times when I wanted to run away from them. They make such awful messes.

If your parents did not like children, you would not be asking this question.
