Hi funny

Canadian Geese do certainly Honk on the ground and in the water... less than in the air
What you are heariung in te air is them communicating .. when they coe in to land on water they are talking to other geese many times... also they send out scouting parties in early eveing to find a good place to sleep ,, corn fields etc.. when they return the geese greet them and so on...

If you think about it .. taking off anf landing with those numbers of birds and not colliding requires good air traffic control.. the only way to get this is to talk... or in thier case..HONK

I do alot of work with waterfowl and I can say for sure they honk... wherever, whenever the need strikes them...

Also for the one who said to warn of pooping.. funny...
Funny fact.. ducks and geese poop on average of 1 time per 10-15 minutes...
There is some variance according to diet but that is a general statistic...
Now you know why the sidewalks are full of poop when the canadians are around.. all those birds pooping 1 time each on average of 4 times per hour? LOL

Good Luck

Geese communicate by honking. Flight formations and directions require communication. On the ground only food and rest is #1.

They do so make noise when on the ground. Especially when you've got a dog on a leash. It's just a basic communication thing with them.
