Freedom of speech is great thing but do we have to lower ourselves to the point of childish insults? Thats what ended the respect!

The answer is simple. Partisanship. Extreme partisans on both sides are locked into their ideologies and seem to have great trouble acknowledging any opinion that doesn't agree with their worldview. Since many of these people don't really understand why they believe they way they do they cannot debate the facts. In absence of fact they try to shout down the other side by any means necessary. I apply this statement to both sides equally. I am an independent conservative and make no apologies for it. I believe wholly in the right to free speech and expression. I draw the line at outright insults of other people's character. This is not free speech it is hate speech and hate speech has never been, nor should it ever be protected. I reserve the right to disagree with any opinion, further I reserve the right to voice that disagreement, but no matter how mad an opinion (informed or not) makes me, I try to stay above the fray of naming calling or other retribution. They are just opinions after all and opinions cannot really hurt me. Simply put, on Yahoo Answers if you are looking for good dialog, you might actually get it from one out of every four posters.

so you state "Everyone knows that we all have Freedom of speech, expression, etc, and no one is gonna agree totally with each others..." and then you don't want people to voice thier opinion and just move on out of respect???
a bit of an oxymoron eh?
Why ask a question in a public forum if you only expect to answers you like?

Aaaahhhh! This question makes me so angry! You people and your questions! Why don't you stop asking why I get so angry! I am kidding, I know what you mean though. I know people are not going to agree with me all the time and I am not going to agree with them but people fail to realize that we all have common ground. We just need to find that then go from there.

Would you have reported this answer:
"This is just ridiculous."
I got a violation notice for that answer.
I'll let you guess whether the question was ridiculous or not. Rather than report the questions, I just answer them.

The same clause that gives you the right to ask these questions gives others the right to respond with angry answers.

My annoyance is at the use of this category as a soapbox. The screeds that are thinly or not framed as legitimate requests for clarification or perspective make me mad.

exactly...but instead, spend huge amounts of time cutting and pasting other's identities, and using them to report ANY opinions other than their's. I guess everyone knows it, but not everyone respects it.

I agree if you don't like the question someone asked, don't answer it.
