Yahoo! has changed the layout of Yahoo! Answers again. Basically now just above the answers to a question you will see some writing on the right which says "Show:" and then a drop-down box.

To start with everyone's is set to "Rated higher than
-2". A thumbs up gives the answer 1 point, a thumbs down takes away a point. So this means that any answers below -2 will not be shown, if you want to change this then use the drop-down menu to change the setting.

It's so that you don't have to look at really bad useless answers, unless they haven't received enough thumbs down yet, of course.

I have noticed this has suddenly started appearing, then I noticed you can set your threshold. It seems the threshold has been automatically set at minus 2 but you can alter it.
If an answer has two or more 'thumbs down' votes, then it's below your threshold so it automatically is hidden. You can click on it to see what the answer was and how many thumbs down it got.

it means that it is below the threshold setting that you have on your profile. e.g. when youe are reading answers that other people have given, if they have been given more negatives than your threshold allows then it wont be shown directly.

You can change the setting to show all answers though

It means that you have not reached the expected level. in the days of old farm workers had a minimum amount of work to do and the bundles they gathered of the threshing material were what they were paid on. If they were not up to the standard of their other workers or any of their bundles were under weight then they were below their threshold

it is the difference between the Question occurring to you, and the possibility of the answer being known to you if you step over the line of the threshold and look in a dictionary.

'Threshold' is the line between the outside world and the inside world of your home (situated within your front door).

There's a drop down thingy at the top of the page where you can select how many thumbs down a question may receive before those helpful folks at Yahoo hide it from you....you can adjust this at will.

It means someone gave ya some thumbs down. Don't worry about it. We all get em sometimes.

It means that whoever said it knows you can do better. It isn't up to your potential, in other words.
