Black absorbs all the colors of the spectrum and white reflects them

because they are opposites- neither are colors- white is the absence of all color while black is just the opposite being the presence of all color!
besides that, just look at them side by side- just as day (light) is opposite of night (dark) - why would you think otherwise??
