Looking for an 80's tv movie....?

Plot line is...two girls going to a catholic school befriend each other. They live in an apartment building in NYC. One girl's father is a super. Her father is abusive. It's a coming of age story. I am curious to know what it was called and who was in it. Anybody remember?
