Algae forms when there's an abundance of light (sun), so the best way to minimize algae growth is by limiting the amount of sunlight your pond gets. The best way to do this is by putting more plants in and around your pond to block the sunlight. Plant some around the pond, maybe some plants that kind of hang over towards your pond, and of course some aquatic plants.
If you do this, you will see a big difference. Remember, the more the pond's surface is covered, the less light the algae has to feed on.
Also there is a product called "Phos-X" that you can put into your pond to help out, and it's completely safe for your fish and frogs. But this alone won't make a lasting difference.

I use an algae killer by FountainTec that is safe for fish, frogs, birds, wildlife and my two Eskie dogs who think any water feature is there for them to drink. It only takes about a cap full of the solution every week to control the algae growth. I buy it at Target, although I've seen it at fountain, waterfall and pond suppliers and some nurseries.

not knowing the specifics of your pond, it's hard to know. do you have anything circulating the water? do you filter the water? do you have an oxygen source(fountain or waterfall).all those things i just mentioned will reduce the growth of algae NATURALLY! i do not like the products you buy at home improvement stores for this purpose, simply because they are chemicals. we built our own biological filter system, if you have any questions, email me! good luck!

Install a water fountain or something else that moves the water around and that should stop the algae from growing.

Go to Home Depot and get yourself an algae killer. It is safe for fish and you only have to use a few drops every few weeks.

Go to the pet store or aquariam and buy a couple of spotted back algea eaters. They look pretty cool too. It looks like a small catfish that has a sucker for a mouth and all it does is eat algea

We didn't want to use chemicals so we used bales of barley straw. It didn't eliminate it completely, but it reduced it.
