For some reason, I keep getting these feelings that the people close to me don't really care for me that much. I have a really close friend that I look up to like a big sister. She is 28 and I am 19. We do lots of stuff like shopping, going out to eat, and just hanging out a lot. I feel comfortable around her, and we have been close for about a year and a half. I think she is a really awesome person and I look up to her. Even though she doesn't do anything at all to make me think she doesn't like me....I always seem to get thoughts in my head that she doesn't like to hang out with me as much as I do with her. It seems like I've always felt this way with many other ppl close to me also. Am I the only one who feels this way???!!!! It always makes me worry about it all the time like I will lose her friendship or something, but there's no way that could happen. I just wish I could stop thinking bad thoughts all the time and just relax?

I used the think the exact same thing about my friends. It haunted me for a very long time. I finally realized that 99% of people will let you know straight up if they don't like you or don't want to hang out with you. If it's completely obvious that someone doesn't want to be around you then it's probably true. If it's just a feeling you get, then it's probably just that... a feeling.

No, you're not the only young adult whose ever felt "that way". It's pretty common. It sounds like you may have some serious issues with self-esteem. You might like to consider talking with your friend and expressing your concerns. Ask for her help in finding a counselor in your area who may be able to help you put things into perspective.

Relax.. you sound very insecure. I would assume that if this friend didn't want to hang out with you she wouldn't. Get some councelling on this. You will feel better about yourself. Everyone is important.

Sounds like someone hurt you in the past. people are hard to trust these days. But if she is a good friend let her be that unless she prove to be different. There are good people in this world believe it or not.

Well, yeah that's happened to me b4, but it doesn't happen any more, I think that my psychologist has been really helpful. And, no u r not having mental issues, but sometimes we just don't appreciate our self enough.

Good luck with everything!!

Your not alone in your feelings. It's low self esteem. People love you just trust that and do things to build yourself up.

You're not the only one who feels that way. Your friends are just occupying space.
