I know that some tests say five days before period, some say three...I just wanted to know if I happen to get a negative response...should I spend the money a few days later to check again?

If you take the test before your period is due and get a negative result, then I would say yes, you should retest in a few days if you haven't gotten your period. If you take it after your period is due, the result may be accurate, and your attention should turn to seeing a doctor about why you're skipping your period.

If you get a positive response, you can be very confident you are pregnant.

If you get a negative response, and your period still hasn't come, test again in 3 to 5 days.

FIRST RESPONSE brand is one of the most sensitive on them market, and got top reviews from Consumer Reports. You can buy a three-pack.

If you want to make sure you won't get a false negative, I think you should wait until you are 3 to 5 days LATE for your period before testing. Use first morning urine and don't drink any liquids a few hours before bed the night before.

I wouldn't test any earlier than the day your period is due. And if you still haven't had any bleeding in a week test again. It doesn't really matter when you LMP was or when the next one is due, it matters when you ovulated/when conception took place. Once conception takes place hCG starts building in the blood and being released into the urine. Once it reaches a certain level a pregnancy test will come back as +, the level depends on the test.

Some women never secrete hCG into the urine. Though that is very rare. If in doubt take a blood test.

Best of luck!

Yes they do say that, but if you read the box, it is only like 30% accurate if you use it before your period. I'd wait until you are a few days late.
