Increase in Sensex reflects the overall mood of the economy of India. A rise in it means that investors & FIIs are positive about the growth of Indian economy & it will be sustained in future. But a rise in Sensex doesnt necessarily mean that the price of your stocks also move up. So BEWARE!! Hope its answered!

Sensex is the common name for the Bombay Stock Exchange Sensitive Index. It consists of the 30 largest and most actively traded stocks, representative of various sectors, on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The Sensex rises because most of the 30 stocks of the index are rising.

Sensex numbers are based on the performances of registered companies in the stock exchange. A rise in the sensex means that there is an over all buyout of the portfolios by the investors. In other words, money is comming to the various companies. In otherwords the companies are showing good return, and good profits. In other words there is a mood of optimism and hope of the investor in the economy and is taken as a sign of stability, economic growth and robustness of the economy. In financial terms it is called the phase of the bull run of the stock market. In the opposite case, when the investor starts selling his portfolios, it is called the bear run, and is a mark of slowing down of the economy, and its instability.

firstly, we make two columns: MOVERS (stocks that have risen in value due to buying) and DRAGGERS (stock that have fallen in value due to selling). we list the stock, and next to it its change in value, either +ve or -ve. a typical table on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensetive Index (SENSEX) 30-share index is as follows:
MOVERS
Infosys +10.00
ITC +5.00
RIL +4.00
Dr Reddy's +1.00
Others +30.00
---------------------
TOTAL: +40.00
DRAGGERS
Hero Honda -12.00
HLL -10.00
Others -8.00
--------------------
TOTAL: -30.00
CHange = Movers - draggers
= 40 - 30 = 10
(these nos are in Rupees)
this 10 is added (or subtracted if negative) to the previous day's closing value of the SENSEX. for example, it it closed at 10,000 yesterday, then today's value would be 10,010. Thus, we say that the sensex is rising
just cause its risin, doesn't mean all the stocks r rising. it just means that the movers have risen more than the draggers have fallen. there may be 20 dragges and 10 movers, but the sensex could still be up
