I would like it to be low-maintenance. Any ideas? (very big emphasis on cheap!)

a lawn would always require maintenance. sod are expensive and you need to give a lots of water in the beginning for them to settle down. having selected the grass type and just spreading the seed. if you are looking for low-maintenance alternatives, i suggest rock garden, or just plant ground cover perennials suitable to your property[climate].

It all depends on where you live. There are different grasses that thrive in the Northern US and Others that trive in the south. Go to your local garden center for the best advice.

don't know what types of grass are growing in ur area...but if you live where there is fescue... don't plant it...its easy but costly over the years... looks good... but every year it needs to be reseeded...
