don't do it. My dad was self emplloyed, and he has the most miserable time. Stick with your job, or get a new one.

I think if you can have a good job that you don't hate you are better off with the job. If you are self-employed you have to work more hours and pay a lot more taxes. The advantage of having your own business is unlimited earning potential, but sometimes it's just a job disguised as "self-employed" like a lot of driving jobs are, so it is not usually an advantage in that case.

Hi,

The things you have to consider are
1) your running costs. Although being a courier or whatever you choose may sound good due to the daily rate you can request or the company can offer, you still have to pay for the cost of breakdown, tyres, petrol and general maintenance work required for your vehicle.
2) If you are thinking of courier work, Many companies won't employ you with out public liability insurance and this can cost you a lot
3) Work isn't always consistent. Recognition is the key factor when it comes to your own business and sometimes it beneficial to know somebody who can find you work.

A bit of advice I will give you however is to possibly become a "man with a van" where you can offer all kinds of services like removals, house moving or whatever else you choose. just don't come to the midlands because that's my lateset project!!!

All the best either way

You will initially be into negative income. As you build your business, you can expand once you earn a positive. You should do both, and not jump in completely but do half your regular job and half your business until you feel comfortable with it and actually start turning a positive net. There are more tax deductions than a standard W-2, because the tax code was pushed by business owners, not employees.

It might be difficult and start up costs can be tricky. But the good thing about self employment is you're in charge. You don't have to slave for anyone but yourself. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Go for it.

it depends on your time. Being selfemployed you have to keep track of alot on paper to proove for tax season for you have to file taxes differntly and you must be very organized to keep your buisness working well. Plus getting a business licence and all that good stuff.
