Leave those over-the-top costumes for a party, and let the children concentrate on school work at school. How much fun can children have if they have to sit around in those uncomfortable costumes all day? Put them on after dinner and go door to door or to a community party for a couple of hours, then home, a bath and bed. That's a healthier way for a child to celebrate Hallowe'en, and every bit as much fun.

I think you and I had the same day. Just got back from my six year's halloween party. Made a ton of popcorn balls that no-one touched because there was so much food. Is it way too much? Truth is, you can get bent out of shape over anything but Halloween is one of the few holidays people in this country can share together without any religious friction. Its very uniting. I don't think people are going overboard out of any effort to be mean. We just want to have fun with our kids and enjoy them while they're little enough to still be interested. So . . . kick back, enjoy and Happy Halloween.

I was one of the kids with the homemade (or Walmart brand) costumes every year, while all my friends had really expensive or more creative costumes. It would bother me for all of about 5 minutes, then I would realize that it didn't matter cause I was still getting to go trick-or-treating that night and I always got to go to the best neighborhoods with my cousins. (you know, better candy!) Now, our schools are the same as some of the other answers... no party, no decorations, no treats. Its lots less fun for kids now, I think! So as long as your kids aren't overly upset about those other costumes, let them enjoy the parties, and don't worry about it!

Many parents go overboard nowadays for many different occasions. It is just the time we live in. I wish our schools did a little something though. Our children can not have any Halloween celebrations at school or even dress up!

Halloween is,
The festival that all devils offends,
celebrated he should not be,
the deads deserve respect,
and by them a feast one must do.
2 of November,Dia de los muertos
Of the Calaca nobody is saved,
I have come for his souls, this day,
2 of November is my day
I want to see you in the graveyard,
I come for canijos of Yahoo Answers,
the ones that always + 2 answer,
and to the ones that the bad knack they show,
to politics and strikers, to religious and racist
Two of November, is my day,
and is the day in which the souls visit,
all beloved familiars and others, your
gonna be the next who dead, and a cold stone on you remained.
The death is the solution of your problems,
you do not give death to you, at any moment I arrive,
I carry your soul al panteon to rest and of your conflicts to forget,
but all has price, you can't love, anymore
to be a soul in grief, and by your acts punished to be,
Be afraid, that I the death have arrived,
Do not believe to anybody side,
that the all powerful gentlemen upper and down
all they observe it, all they know it, all they see it,
I am a servant of both, and to
the orders of both I obey,
Of the death nobody is saved
Lady of eternal life, takes my hand and you will see,
the kindnesses of the death you will receive.
2 of November is my day, celebrate it, since to someone wanted to recall.

Where do you live?! In my area. we don't get to do anything for Halloween (or any holiday, actually). I'd love it if the school allowed us to do more.
