Find a mini. I have a shuffle, nano, and I-pod 30 gig. The shuffle doesn't allow for the songs to be quickly found, the Nano face scratches too easily, and she does not need 30 gigs.
I got her a 4 gig mini when the nano came out and has she beat it up (and she is very touchy about her stuff). If you drop them, they are made of metal and can withstand abuse better. The hard drive had to be replace already, but I bought the 3 year warranty. She also listens to the same thing over and over, so she has barely 2 gigs filled.

They stopped making the Ipod Mini and you can find them at a decent price on Overstock.com and some other sites. All the other newer models are going to be regular price. And Apple still makes products for the Mini as well as offering service.

We bought the ipod nano and went for the largest one in that class. We wanted to give her the most storage for music we could but couldn't justify buying the full size ipod with all the video stuff.

Why don't you buy her $100 worth of books at a used book store. She will actually learn something then. Why does a 13 year old girl need an iPod? Shouldn't we be teaching our children not to crave material possessions? Knowledge has taken a back seat to convenience.

Ipod nano - they're small and sleak. You can choose the 1GB (250 songs) or 2GB (500 songs) and she can even get it in pink if I'm not mistaken. She can customize pictures on it and there are the cutest cases for her to carry it around in.

ipods are NOT for you. Stop burdening your parents and start taking some responsibility. Buy an ipod when you have started earning your own money, get it?
And if this is the parent asking, please dont spoil your kid. Your kid will lack social ability and will begin isolating herself more with these things. Get her something more useful that can develop her personality.

None, Noooo, don't do it.
Buy a Creative instead.
There cheaper, more reliable and don't require Apples famed "servicing"
