For example: Today I went out for lunch and I ended up spending $10, I had a gift card, but it only had $4 on it. I was trying to limit myself to the $4, but I just couldnt! I have a hard time disciplining myself in the store and then when I come out I feel so guilty for spending it. I am pretty responsible with my money as far as paying bills, groceries, etc, but I just cant stop that guilty feeling. I am always like "I should have just brought my lunch and ate at work" so I could save some money. It's not that I dont really have the money to spend, I just wish I could save more than I do.

Set yourself up on the 'evelope system". Pay all your bills on payday using money orders so that you wont be tempted by that extra money later. Then take out all your spending money and divy it up however you like-- say $30 a week for eating out, some for gas, and some for miscellaneous. Then only open those envelopes when you need to make that purchase. If you stick to only what you set aside, there will be no guilt.

Some of us do feel guilty for spending money.I am like you.I've been that way all of my life. But,lets look at something. You say you get your bills payed. Now lets look at all of the people who gamble their money away and then get their electric shut off or She just had to have that new pair of shoes, even though she already has fifty.Or he needs that new power saw because Joe next door had one and he liked it.Or all the men and woman who just had to have that hit of crack while they had babies laying home hungry.I could go on all day.I guess what I'm trying to say sweetie is.You need to look at the positive things you do with your money and those lunchs evrey once in awhile, as rewards.Unless your wanting to save for a car or a house. What would you do with your money after got it saved.Think about it. We save money to turn around and spend it.LOL.So try not to feel so guilty. Its your money. You worked for it.

I completely understand the guilt feeling. I used to have it all the time too until I finally convinced myself that hey, I earned the $, my bills are paid, there are groceries in the house and if I want to buy something completely for myself, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. You earn your money to do with as you see fit, you deserve some little perks otherwise, you're spending your money on necessities only and that gets old.

You want to be more disciplined, yet you fail. That feeling of guilt is because of failure to meet your goal of saving money. Don't be so hard on yourself. One way to succeed is by packing your lunch before work or even the night before. The next morning, get up and get your lunch from the fridge. It'll get easier the more you do it.

Because you seem to set limits on spending ; it is natural to feel guilty when you cross limits
