Great suggestions for movies so far...but...are you talking "classic" as in current (last 10 yrs.) or "classic" as in the OLD movies with Lugosi, Karloff, Cushing, Price, and others?

Among the old classics:
"Dracula" with Bela Lugosi or any of the "Dracula" movies starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

"The Wolfman" with Lon Chaney Jr.

"The Invisible Man" with Claude Rains

"The Mummy" with Boris Karloff or the version that pairs Christopher Lee with Peter Cushing.

"Frankenstein" with Boris Karloff

"The Mask of the Red Death" with Vincent Price

"House on Haunted Hill" with Vincent Price

These are classics in the way they were made, the following of the actors, etc...and most are good for viewing with kids...a way on introducing them to scary movies and letting them see it's just a bunch of people pretending as they tell a story.

Now if you want classics as to the ones that get into your mind and set your imagination ablaze and give you the heebie-jeebies...then...the list is as long as the old classics that include the few I mentioned above.

Definitely..."The Exorcist" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". A lot of people like the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series or the "Halloween" series. Just about anything that is Wes Craven seems to fit the bill.

There are so many movies out there that could be named as "great classic scary movies"...good luck with finding the ones right for you. Hope the answers you receive here help!!!

Classic -- you cannot go wrong with a Bette Davis flick. Try 'Hush Hush .. Sweet Charlotte' (1964) and 'What Happened to Baby Jane' (1962). Love these!

One of the all time best is "Dressed To Kill' starring Michael Caine, Nancy Allen and Angie Dickinson. It is a really cool, fun, and very, very scary movie! Whenever I watch it, even now, I cannot sleep!
