-Lots of diapers ( at the baby shower ask for allll sizes from 1-6 because at my shower I got all sizes and it lasted a long time. Even if the baby takes newborns they dont for long so you can just purchase those when you leave the hospital. After that you will have a collection of different sizes)
-Wipes
-Baby Creams
-Kolik Water (the original stuff)
-Tempra
-Baby bath tub
-Buy sleepers but buy the next size up and let them wear the sleeper baggy cuz you go through tons of them.
-Id suggest not to buy to may outfits like jeans and stuff cuz as newborns its very uncomfy for them to wear on a constant basis. I did that and I wasted tons of money (good for once and a while to go visit family and stuff)
-Baby undershirts (Lots)
-A mobile
-Baby socks ( I forgot...lol)

Assuming you live reasonably close to Target (or a similar mega-store), you won't run out of anything! When you get closer to your due date, buy a small supply of everyday things. You can't know what size diapers you'll need, or what may not work (what if you buy a box of 5000 wipes and don't like them?) Everyone (and every baby) likes slightly different stuff. For example, you'll see a lot of people recommending lots and lots of onsies. I didn't buy a single one, probably got 50 as gifts (no kidding), and didn't even use them all! (I actually preferred the long gowns with elastic).
Register for some practical stuff (bouncy seat? breast pump?) so that potential gift givers can give you useful gifts instead of guessing or just buying clothes.
Get the big stuff: crib, changing table, car seat & stroller and don't sweat the rest. In the long run you'll save a lot of money.
If you're worried about getting hit with costs right after the baby is born, why don't you start a special savings account that you put a small amount of money in each payday. Even if you only put $30 in the account twice a month, in 8 months you'd have almost $500 that you probably didn't miss.

Congratulations! The biggest mistake parents make, in my opinion, is that they spend too much money on things that baby doesn't need. First, you do need a good, solid crib with a good mattress and bumper pads. You need a safe place to change the baby. You can certainly use a rocking chair or an easy chair in which to sit and nurse your baby. And you need an infant car seat for your car. Other than that, I wouldn't buy too much ahead of time. Your husband can run out and get diapers when the baby is born. You don't know what size your infant will be. There is no sense in purchasing "premie" diapers if your baby weights in at 9 lbs.!! Also, babies don't like to dress up the first few weeks. Just get some little nightgowns and a few infant pjs with the little feet in them for size 0 - 3 months. Also, one good blanket to keep the baby warm, and a few crib sheets. That's all you really need. In fact, in the past generations, many babies slept in the bottom dresser drawer in the parents' room, and did just fine. So, do not stress out over stuff. Just enjoy your baby!

how exciting!! congratulations! Well my husband and I think the same way so we started buying stuff little by little so that it wouldn't be a big expense right away. I have bought crib, changer, car seat. As for diapers, I have bought just 2 packs of newborn size and more size 1...dr said our baby is gonna be big so I don't know is she's gonna need NB size at all. I have also bought wipes ( I was grocery shopping I saw some on sale so I bought a bunch)...and clothes after I found out the gender. We are doing a neutral nursery so I bought that even before we knew the sex, good luck.

Buy the big things first such as crib, stroller, car seat, ect. Then once you find out what you are having then buy bedding and clothing. I would wait until just before your baby arrives to buy diapers and wipes. They go very quickly but you are better off only buying a few at a time just in case they grow out of them too fast or can't wear a certain kind. Save your receipts to everything! One thing that I noticed I couldn't have enough of.....burp cloths!!!!
Good luck... oh and baby gowns are great for newborns!

Congrats!
I would get the big things out of the way first. Crib, car seat, highchair, etc. Don't put too much into diapers because you never know how many you'll need of each size. You could start buying gift cards to the stores where diapers and formula will be purchased. Bulk stores like Sam's Club are great.

I wouldn't buy anything until you are into the second trimester and miscarriage is not such a concern.
I would not stock up on diapers too much either since newborns grow fast and you might end up with a ton of leftover diapers. When my twins were born, we went through a ton of diapers, but we still ended up with a barely used pack of preemie diapers leftover.
With our first we bought the stroller/carseat combo, crib, and a few onsies, sleepers, burp cloths, etc before he was born. We also bought his crib bedding. I think we only bought a pack or two of diapers.
A lot of the other stuff, we saved til after he was born.
Oh and we got a boppy. I reccomend one of those if you are going to nurse. Or if you are not, they are great anyway. I used them when bottlefeeding and our kids just enjoyed sitting in it when they were little.

HI there. You may be better off just putting away money, since you will be overwhelmed with gifts from showers and do not know what you are getting. Also, don't buy diapers ahead as you do not know how fast the baby will grow. we had a big baby and cases of newborn size diapers that we could not use.
Congrats on the pregnancy!!!!

Well I am a mother of 2 I didn't really buy anything because I had 3 baby showers and mostly you get everything you need. Now if you think that you are not going to get a baby shower then wait a couple of months and buy diapers, wipes, neutral colors clothes, and other little things that you think you would need.

Plan your baby shower, and have a big one!! The more people who come, the more stuff you get! As hard as it is, lay off buying clothes, you get a lot of those at your baby shower! I would suggest: crib, bassinet, changing table, whatever furniture is needed for the room, and just make sure you have the big stuff. If you do your baby shower a little earlier than normal, you can make sure you have enough time to buy anything that you didn't get yet! A GREAT book to buy that helps a lot is "What To Expect When You're Expecting", I love it! And you should look on the internet for free magazines. Like babycenter.com, baby.com, parenting magazine.
P.S. Congrats!! :-)
