They don't typically fatten their wallets. Typically, they fatten the coffers of the people in their district, by bringing large projects to their district.
This is why there are so many earmarks, yet the politicians keep getting re-elected.
What's good for the whole, is not necessarily good for an individual district.

There is not too much integrity in any portion of our society these days. We are going to have to get back to believing more than in material if we are to survive as a people. Our quest for material is the cancer that can destroy us. ie., global warming, pollution, famine, uncontrolled disease. (By the way, the possessive for wallets is their (a pronoun) not there (a place).

It sure looks that way.In the wise words of my now deceased father,God rest his soul,"Vote for the lesser of the two evils. You can try to elect an honest man to office, but within a month he will be as corrupt as the rest of them."Vote in every election but think long and hard about your choices.

Essentially we are voting people to represent their parties, not their constituents. The only time we matter is in the 6 weeks leading up to an election.
Once they get back into office its about voting along the party line and paying back their corporate sponsors.
