A candle and a card

I am a mother, and my birthday is next Monday (#48!). So let me offer this advice. I don't want anything from Walmart especially their cheap jewelry. Sorry! I don't want anything to use in the kitchen or to clean with. I do like personal items like Bath & Body lotions etc. (Gardenia is my personal favorite right now). I would appreciate a gift card to a really nice department store...Macy's for example.

I like the suggestions from some about making something personal...something handmade with photos or a card with a really meaningful sentiment. These are things I would never throw away and keep forever and would also be along the lines of inexpensive which you mentioned. If you got the card, maybe you could also take her to lunch.

Hope that helps.

Everything costs so much these days, doesn't it?! Some nice smelling candles and bath salts are nice. Lavender is very relaxing. Throw in a relaxing CD if you can. You could just spend the day with her; whatever she wants to do. Or you could do her housework for a week, or make her favorite meal and a birthday cake. Give her a foot rub. Often it's the little things that mean the most. Have fun!

i love doing presents for my mom that are semi homemade.. i don't know what your mother likes, but you could make her a basket of goodies. I did a "pamper momma" basket, and i made her a card with stamps, scrap booking materials. i got some clear and colored plastic wrap and used leftover ribbons.. bath beads, bath salts, various teabags... wrap them up, then try to find an eye mask.. usually inexpensive, or make her a heating pad. get some fabric (figure where she will want to put it, i.e neck, back, leg) and cut according to the size, sew all but one side, (do this by hand), fill with white rice, and then sew shut. she can heat it in the microwave for 30 - 60 sec on high, and it's instant heat.. then throw it all in a small basket and decorate the handle with the leftover ribbon.. I'm sure she will love it. you can always put in other things, if she doesn't like tea, then maybe find some flavored coffee, like chocolate raspberry. have fun!

One birthday I bought my mom a nice pair of shoes from Nine West and she LOVED them! I'm not sure what your budget is but shoes are a nice change from the ordinary gifts like flowers or jewelry. If you have a smaller budget, I once bought her a Simon & Garfunkel CD (her favorite) to listen to in the car. You can either do that or maybe make a mix of music she might like to listen to? Good luck!

Pray, meditate, and choose the most heartful action to express your selfless love to her.
I don't know what will be the inspiration in your meditation. Here is just a shallow example: Take her to see the person or the place she loves most. If she is too old to walk, or if you don't have money for a taxi drive, just carry her on your back.
If she doesn't want to go out, just offer your best song or dance, along with the most sincere words to show your thankfulness to all her sufferings in bringing you up.

A book that contains every success she got after being a mom. For example, when she gave her daughter support by her words when she was upset, how did that work to make that daughter feel strong, how did a mom's appreciation made her daughter confident and courageous. This will be a book which will contain every detail that a daughter felt for being her daughter.

Same goes for a boy/son.

I like the idea of a memory box. Ever heard of it? It's a deep picture frame(you can find it at hobby stores or at wal mart) and you put a picture of ?? in the back and it is deep enough, so after you put your picture in you can glue little ornaments or whatever to it. For example: I gave my mom one that had a old family picture in it and I glued some miniature baseballs and other little toys.

You could buy a scrapbook and make some pages in it for her. It would be inexpensive, from the heart, and made from you!

Something you can make! A scrapbook, or a special meal? A coupon book (that you make) of future favors, like a free housecleaning (from you), a trip to the movies with her, etc.
