Its not a "bad " thing to be American. Its just that because we are a melting pot, people recognize their roots, their customs, and their family history. We are all from somewhere else. The only original Americans, the Native American Indians, all came from somewhere as well, South America, and Russia,(crossing the ice bridge). It doesn't mean we are unequal, though in the past many tried to discriminate to make it so through slavery and indentured servitude. Now we are going through a time of lets try and make it better for the people that were hurt in the past. Unfortunately that means now having to be tolerant of reverse discrimination as well.Someday, someone will stand up and say that the Caucasian race is also equal to the blacks and Hispanics and whoever the racial discrimination of the day is at the time is and deserves equal treatment, both good and bad. Do we really need to have separate college funds if a mind is a terrible thing to waste? Being proud of who we are is part of being a part of this great nation. Being a Segregationist isn't.

1. in school we are taught american history. It is the history of caucasians in american if you haven't noticed. I agree. There should just be amercian history that tells the history of all cultures here, and doesn't seperate it into dumb months
2. the uncf was created to aid blacks in obtaining scholarships when it was legal not to give blacks scholarships. (hence the term *****, which is outdated). There are actually scholarships just for caucasians and just for people of irish decent or russian decent etc or catholics or left handed people etc. uncf just has bigger fundraisers than these other cultural groups.
3. blacks are called african americans because it is better than ***** or colored. thought it would be nice to be simply called american, it hasn't happened yet, and it's better than many other things that blacks have been called througout the years. Also, new immigrants are called irish americans and russian americans until they're assimilated, which is easy to do because they blend in visually.
4. naacp isn't trying to kill people, nor do they have any racist leanings (openly). again, they were created during a time when blacks had no rights, so advancement meant fair pay and not getting spit on. also, culture is different from race. an association for the advancement of irish people wouldn't immediately be considered racist, unless they meant for it to be.
5. african americans, latinos, asian americans, native americans don't ask to be called such. they are seperated and labeled. many people of said cultures find it refreshing when they leave the us and are simply refered to as americans when abroad.
you seem to have many questions. a very sociology classes would probably help you with many answers. good luck

I don't recall anyone saying you couldn't have "white" things. And being that white is the generic race, everything is pretty much white anyway. We're racist because we do things to uplift our people? No, not at all.
As far as the "African-American" debate. I'm black. I have never been to Africa. Don't know anything about where my ancestors orginated from. Therefore, I do not call myself African American. African Americans are people who migrated from Africa by choice.
As far as the NAACP or any other organization geared towards helping black, #1- other races are not excluded from that. #2- whether you realize it or not, we still deal with a lot of racism in this country (as well as the world). Its pretty obvious in YOUR question and these responses. So, HELL yeah we need organizations like this to look out for us, and help us deal with people like you. We don't have anything handed to us. And many people base their opinions of blacks and latinos on the ridiculous stereotypes that have been following us for YEARS. Just because the civil rights movement ended, that does not mean it ebolished racism.
And Black History month.... its the shortest month of the year. And its not like anyone other than schools and a few commercials here and there do anything to celebrate black history month. You may hear something about Martin Luther King Jr. or Harriett Tubman, but for the rest of the 11 months out of the year.... its back to white america. I wish we did have a White history month. Lets teach people about how they stole this land from the Native Americans. Lets teach people about slavery and the real intentions behind Abe Lincoln.
You're right, we do only have one planet to live on, and yeah, we are all equal in gods eyes. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who do not have god in their lives and do not treat people as equals.

Wow, you didn't ask just one answer, you asked many - inquiring minds wanna know! :)
So, here we go:
Carter G. Woodson chose the second week of February for ***** History Week in 1926 because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. Later on in 1976, as the nation reached its bicentennial, the week was expanded into an entire month.
The U.S. is made up of many different ethnic groups that have contributed to the country and made an impact on history, so no, the blacks and hispanics are not the only races that have history in this country.
The United ***** College Fund (UNCF) is a Fairfax, Virginia-based American philanthropic organization that fundraises college tuition money for black students and general scholarship funds for 39 historically black colleges and universities. The UNCF was incorporated on April 25, 1944 by Frederick D. Patterson (then president of what is now Tuskegee University), Mary McLeod Bethune, and others.
There are, however, many scholastic funds available for many other races, including "caucasian" students.
An African American (also Afro-American, Black American) is a member of an ethnic group in the United States whose ancestors, usually in predominant part, were indigenous to Africa. The term refers to someone of black ancestry. As you must know, American blacks came to the U.S. by birth after having their ancesters brought here through the slave trade. Yes, we are Americans just like everyone else with citizenship here.
The NAAPC is not considered a racist organization. The National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (NAACP) is one of the oldest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States. The NAACP was founded by a diverse group on February 12, 1909 by WEB Dubois (African American Man), Ida Wells-Barnett (African American Woman), Henry Moscowitz (Jewish male), Mary White Ovington (White woman), Oswald Garrison Villard (German born white male), and William English Walling (white male and son of a former slave owning family [2]) [3], to work on behalf of the rights of colored people including Native Americans, African Americans, as well as Jews. Perhaps the other association you mentioned does not work for everyone, just a certain race.
It is a beautiful thing to be just an American. :) Be proud to be an American. We are.

All races have a history in this country. It's just that Hispanics and Blacks have not been recognized by the majority as having a history. That is why Hispanics and Blacks established their own recognition. UNCF exists because most Blacks need financial help attending college, as most come from a poor environment. There is no UCCF because it is not needed (generally) because whites can afford to attend college (generations before them have attended). You need to know who came up with the term "African American" -- Jesse Jackson!!! Who is he to categorize anyone? I agree with you that we are all American.

Isn't that every other month? How about president's month? All the presidents have been white... the UNCF is a non-profit organization that runs primarily on donations... if you want to start up a fund for yourself, feel free. I think if you want to call yourself Irish/Dutch-American, you have the right to do so... if African-American is the term they wish to use, let them... your ancestors are from Sweden and Ireland, theirs are from Africa.

i totally agree that we are all equal. but being that blacks were the most hated minority group in america,we needed something to express that being black is something to be proud of,and not ashamed. no one said that other races can't have history months, but why would they need them?
