If you have an interview at a new job that you may be getting, should you tell your employer about being pregnant or tell them after you are already hired?

Honesty is usually the best policy. If they have a problem with your pregnancy then you probably don't want a job there anyway. I would tell them upfront so that if you do get hired there is less stress for you!

You have a better chance of getting the job if you don't tell them, but you have a better chance of getting a job with a company that values family if you do tell them and get good feedback on their leave policies. I know that we hired a new middle mgr. that was visibly pregnant, who had to go on maternity leave a month after starting the job, but that was okay because she was the best candidate for the position and we understand things like having a baby.

I think it's a good way to get the real scoop on their family values, but not a good way to land a great job that you need where the family values may be less open and accommodating.

I interviewed first. This happened to me twice, I was pregnant with my daughter and didn't mention it. Again I interviewed for a higher position and bought a suit to hide my belly. I say don't tell them. If you get hired they can't let you go because you're pregnant (that's discrimination) but if you tell them at the interview that might make them think twice about hiring you.

You are not required to divulge any personal information at an interview, and it is illegal for a prospective employer to ask for information such as marital status, etc. You will have a better chance of landing the job if you don't mention it at all. Once you are hired, I recommend giving your employer plenty of notice of your need for maternity leave so they can arrange to cover your absence.

Okay this is a tough one. You should tell your employer that you are pregnant so he can see that your very honest with decisions.

Its always better to be honest with them, you are not dying of an illiness just pregnant!thet cannot refuse you a postion just for being pregnant.
