Hm.
He was actually made up by the French in the middle ages. He may have been loosly based on a real person in the same way that many fictional characters are, but it was a story told to French courtisans, as far as I can remember from my degree.
So neither - he was a fictional story.

Uncertain. There's a reference to a fight at Mt. Badon, Arthur's supposed final battle, in the chronicles of the Venerable Bede - butit doesn't list him by name. It's possible that he did exist as a chieftain or war leader of some sort, but very likely, the bulk of the stories based on him are untrue.
Many of the later stories (such as Lancelot, etc.) are French additions - so all the "courtly love" stuff is myth. Some of the older stuff is questionable too - a lot of it is reminiscent of the stories of Finn MacCool from Ireland (war leader, sleeping beneath the hills, etc.).

Good question.
No one really knows. It's believed he was a Celtic Cheiftain in Briton but no one is really sure about that.
Most likely he was real. Most legends have their basis in reality.
