5/7x + 1/2=5/7x+1/2 since x is a variable and 1/2 is a regular number, they can not go together unless a number in multiplication replaces the variable such as x=2, 5/7(2) + 1/2=1 and 13/14 or 27/14.

5/7x + 1/2 = 0

14(5/7x) + 14(1/2) = 0

10x + 7 = 0 - -Clearing the fraction

10x + 7 - 7 = 0 - 7

10x = - 7

10x/10 = - 7/10

x = - 7/10

The answer is x = - 7/10

Insert the x value into the equation

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Check

5/7(-7/10) + 1/2 = 0

- 35/70 + 1/2 = 0

- 1/2 + 1/2 = 0

0 = 0

- - - - - - - - -

The solution set is { - 7/10 }
