Are there cicadas in Spain as well as crickets?

Each evening in central Spain I listen to a wonderful semi-tropical chirping which sounds very similar to cicadas in Malaysia. But nobody locally seems to know what they are.

Yes they are cicadas you get them in the South of France as well

Yes don't tell me about it, big, brown, ones,and then jump on you.. I think it's mainly in spring and summer with the heat. I am Spanish and seriously, I have "cicada-phobia", yet to invent a name for that one, I guess..
