I think it has something to do with this obsession with being funny that the country seems to be having these days. It seems like nothing is allowed to be serious anymore. Even computer commercials have to be funny these days, and computers really aren't very funny at all, when you think about it. My point is, our society tends to like to poke fun at things they don't understand, or things they feel are beyond their mental capacity, so as to make whoever honestly wants to know the answer feel like a big dork for even thinking about it in the first place. I know I'm guilty of doing that, whenever my boyfriend tries to talk seriously about things like quantum physics or philosophy, I tend to cut him off with a joke or an eye-roll to show him I think he's acting like a Trekkie. It's not right and I'm sorry I do it, but honestly, the idea of such big things in the universe that make me feel like an insignificant speck of dust not even on the radar of the universe, always makes me uncomfortable and want to change the subject. Maybe that's why people feel compelled to be rude or inappropriately funny in the Religion and Spirituality category. Just an idea.

Because in real life they would not dare do that as they're probably unsociable cowards so here they can have the guts to abuse people without having to face them. They are pathetic individuals who are normally opinionated pr*cks who don't live in the real world. And they'll probably be on here agreeing with you because they're so f*cking stupid they don't realise we're talking about them.

It makes them feel powerful, expassilly as the other person cannot stand up to them, from a computer screen, but you can by ignoring them as they look idiots and thick.

Sadly it appears to be a feature of some people's personality that to disagree with their particular beliefs is a direct personal attack.

Perhaps because they have little or no self esteem and need to be mean and nasty to feel good. It is sad but it happens all the time.
